Collegiate athlete, Pageant winner and now published author. H.B. Pierre Simon Jr. more frequently referred to as Pierre Simon is a dude I knew in college from days of playing intramural in the recreation center! The part that i didn't know is that over the course of 10 years, he was writing a book. He said "I wrote a book for 10 years." I was honored to sit across from this creative and relish in his accomplishments. Creativity though abstract is a fun thing to try once you have your direction. Pierre stated that he didn't write a word without inspiration and that his travels from 2007 until helped cultivate his experiences. We talk the reason for writing the book, when he decided to publish it and his end goals. He describes the purpose of naming the book The flight of the phoenix and imparts advise to inspiring authors. We also find out that there will be a book 2 and 3. I’ve been back in the city for a while! Truthfully I only spent a couple days in LA and it really wasn’t work it was me enjoying what I aspire to do in life! Simply put I want to make money through Still Visionary, Inc. This episode was recorded in The White Room at LFTP studios... “The Pentagon.” Let me start out by saying that Edric and I will be connected for life and after as well and now Three and I share that same bond! Edric is a Lodge brother of mine! We are active members of Kings of Israel #19 AF & AM (5:30). He made it a point to consistently reference his childhood brother who was the emcee in their crew. I listened to Three and became of fan not only because of the talent but because of constant reminder of his skill level! We talk about Three’s inception! He attributes everything to Sunnyside, TX. He attributes his skill to the Southside legend Lil KeKe, Jay Z, Nas and a few others. The strongest part of their bond is the non yes man role that Edric plays. Three doesn't hesitate to state that Edric was there helping him every step of the way! He credits Edric for the constant push. I would have been remised not to mention that I have been a fan of Three's for a while that in August I texted him to congratulate him on CREATING LFTP studios and he politely states that he couldn't have completed the studio without the help of Edric. I took my podcast to the entertainment capital of the world. I took my podcast to Los Angeles "L.A." I want that to sit for a minute and soak in. My podcast has no MAJOR sponsors yet, it's independent; it's self produced, black owned and its the number one podcast in the city of Houston! I took it to L.A. and I linked up with FOUR AFRICAN AMERICAN women who are nothing short of amazing. This episode is the fourth podcast of the four that I will drop from my L.A. run! Circa 2014, I had completed my first independent. I had done the stage play four times and when it came time to level up a young women auditioned and got the lead role. Her name is Ruby Lee Dove II. I remember telling her its your time and that she's in that position for a reason! She went on to get an agent and move to LA. She sites that the move to LA was due to the fact of stagnation! She sites that you have to come to LA as an actor and not an aspiring actor! If you cant get the role create it (24:30). We talk about her 1944 project (26:11) under her production company Life After Life. The project was about the wrongful death of an African American kid named George Stinney Jr. by electric chair (27:10) in 1944! She talks about the time spent writing 1944, the amount of drafts written for 1944 and finally the perception of 1944 when it premiered! We look at the very first project she booked when she moved to LA and Ruby gives a bit of advice to young women of color who may follow her foot steps! This is the last episode from my LA run. The knowledge and conversations i had with these four African American women is indescribable. All I can say is thank you for your time! This week I with another Texas Girl who unlike Ajia Munns from Episode 28: L.A. Inspired (Creativity), is a Writer and was a fellow educator like myself. She states that although she had a high paying job and the group of kids that would prove to be great scholars she wasn't fulfilled! She sites that attending a church different from her family church became her inspiration to move to L.A. so she gave everything away and set out for what Ajia called 'The Lonely City'. During this L.A. run the commonality of these episodes is that they are all from TX and moved for a better opportunity! We find out that Kalaiah is a poet and that she no longer claims to be just a screen writer! She now prescribe top being open to everything! She credits DeVon Franklin with "Provision is God's confirmation you're doing the right thing" Again I am so appreciative of Ajia and the extended arm she gave me with not only this podcast but episode 30 as well. My first stop in Tinseltown was to a college friend. Ajia and I were psych majors at the University of Houston. The gems that Ajia gave on this episode were priceless! Gems such as the best advice that she got as an actress was to keep acting or If you want to act you Must act in stage plays, theater or college films! Which doesn’t strictly pertain to living in LA! She broke LA down into three things 1) the Culture of LA which would be that everyone has a relative who knows someone in the film industry whether it be directly or indirectly! She mentioned that film as well as the up incoming actor feeds the city of L.A. 2) the Fantasy of LA meaning it’s not as glamorous as people would think and the tourist spots become watered down as you as the Actor begins to deal with the grind of LA and 3) the Basic survival of LA in it being a dog eat dog mentality! She refers to LA as the Lonely City and her advice to those embarking on an acting career is to get your head shots, get a reel for to the film schools on college campuses and be in the student films and market online! We talk about her podcast Stories & Poems Podcast on SoundCloud and Apple Podcast. A fact I was reminded of was that’s the opportunity is far greater in LA! She tells me what brought her out to LA and states that she’s out there for a reason and LA isn’t home!
