Eyes Wide Shut: The polarizing Epic last film of the Maestro of disturbing material himself, Stanley Kubrick. Did you know that it was intended to originally be a Rom Com? Pick your jaw back up off the floor and tune in to hear Heather and Sarah (somewhat) excitedly wax philosophical about the litany of symbolism in this masterpiece and discuss this movie as a vehicle for critical commentary on the institution of marriage itself.  Arguably the best line in the movie, spoken by a mysterious Hungarian, of course, nails the intrinsically insightful, overweening theme: “Don’t you think one of the charms of marriage is that it makes deception a necessity for both parties?”

“What Happens in Vegas….”should have really stayed in Vegas...

Sarah and Heather recently returned from a fantasy-laden, Sarah curated weekend in Vegas, sponsored by “Sarah’s Vision.” Whose idea was this movie anyway? Oh right, mine.  Because Honeymoon in Vegas was only available to purchase online, and that just involves too much commitment.  

Heather and Sarah get into the 2008-esque stereotypical tropes of only a movie starring Ashton Kutcher and Camerone Diaz can: The charming, recently fired arrogant male versus the sexy, jilted office hellcat. Albeit they shared a drunken night in Vegas resulting in insta-nuptials, quickly followed by a petition for a insta-divorce, you know these two former models are going to end up together.  It’s just the way life goes! How splendidly original! 

If you like genetically blessed eye candy, huffing, pouting, and trying hard to pretend that they don’t actually really like each other, when it is IQ questioningly obvious, trust me, you will LOVE this one. Double Down on the Dimples!

This week in movies Heather never thought she would watch on purpose, Heather and Sarah tackle “Monster-In- Law,” Jane Fonda’s epic return to film after 15 years. JLo headlines this punchy, witty rom-com with her usual "beauty with a heart of gold” trope, but the sharp chemistry between Wanda Sykes and Fonda completely make this movie quite entertaining. 

Make sure not to miss a stitch of their refreshing repartee. Grab a martini to wash your anxiety meds down and join us as we plumb the shallow depths of Monster-in-Law!

Sigh. You just gotta love a tragic-romantic death, dripping in cursed lore.  And we aren’t just referring to the fictitious movie plot.

Making Goth Girls everywhere weak in their thigh-high boots, Brandon Lee leaves his ultimate mark on cinema, as the last moments of his legacy is forever captured on film. 

Join us as we walk the narrow path, and trace an actor’s tragic ending and simultaneous robust beginning of a beloved franchise.

Ah, families..... Food, guilt, expectations, double-standards, and enmeshed love. 

Sarah and Heather share a huge helping of My Big Fat Greek Wedding.  Written by the star of the rom-com herself, Nia Vardalos, who was reportedly paid $100 for her hit screenplay, with the agreement that she herself could play the lead.  This beloved, endearing comedy lets us into the proud, tight-knit benevolent clique that define Greek families, and explore the balsy hijinks when one “black lamb" dares to date outside her culture.

Ah yes, The Grunge years...

This movie, written and directed by Cameron Crowe, is truly a torch love song ode to the early 90’s in Seattle. 

Sarah and Heather put on their best flannels and Docs and rehash every bit of coffee-house nostalgia this movie evokes. 

A wacky ensemble cast spanning the gamut from Kyra Sedgewick to Bill Pullman, pulls this ode to the romantic despair of your early 20’s, documentary-lite drama romp into focus, with one of the most stellar soundtracks ever compiled. (Thank you Paul Westerberg)

Come stop by this colorful apartment complex and meet yourself following your dreams and failing so hard, your cubicle collapses, giving love yet another hopeful chance after horrific heartbreaks, and finally learning to choose yourself over the hot, womanizing musician who can’t see your worth. 

For the music alone, its worth the Grunge flavored getaway! 

Can anyone NOT relate to the opening scene of this beautiful, dreary, completely allegorical movie, Joe Versus The Volcano?

Trudging along with a huge “Brain Cloud” of existential dread as you dutifully clock into work to grind the day away, whittling down your precious hours on the planet, by making money for a corporation who couldn’t care less about you?  Just me?  Echo.  ECHO!

Heather and Sarah contemplate Joe Versus The Volcano, in all of its colorfully symbolic, surprisingly profound, comedically deep, magical still waters. 

This truly is not your average ROM/DRAM/COM.  This modern take on Homer’s own saga “The Odyssey,”  yanks quite hard on that looming mid-life crisis that might be dangling in the wings of your psyche and begs reflection on asking yourself what truly matters in life.  

And oh yeah, tackles the ole’ “Can’t feel your soul,” question.  Wrapped with sharp, witty comedy and vibrant visual candy, this movie gives you waaaay more than you ever bargained for.  (Just ask Sarah)

Another Sarah recommendation, in which Heather was at first skeptical and a tinge reluctant turned into a smashing success. Sarah and Heather delve into the seminal thematic origins that this movie really laid the groundwork and inspo for: Eyes Wide Shut and Bridges of Madison County, to name a couple. Told from the POV and refreshing tone of a married woman circa 1940, this move refreshingly and boldly approaches the concept of a looming and insurmountable affair/emotional affair.  Two happily married people experience "Love at First Sight,”and their immediate chemistry thus sets off a litany of daisy chain internal virtue explosions and external propriety-questioning implosions.
