Episode 23 of 'Which is the Best' podcast is a bit of a cracker we think.

Every week, Lee Kyle & Sammy Dobson decide which is the best out of things with similar or identical names.

This week, in Lee's hometown of Jarrow, the sit in a car in view of the river where they used to have public hangings and choose between:

We enjoyed the second bit of wordplay so much that we very much decided it was worth traversing the rocky waters of potential cultural insensitivity .Plus, we have a friend called Rahul who would have almost certainly have said it was alright if we'd asked him*

*It actually is alright, we are perfectly decent people.

It was almost a disaster this episode...

It was supposed to be the 'Britpop special' for some reason, where we were going to decide whether ten bands of the era were better than ten things that sound like them (eg are Pulp better than pulp? Are Menswear better than men who swear?).

But there was a problem.

It was total shit. Turns out Menswear just aren't interesting.

So we started again and instead present a variation on the theme:

SO!

We decide between (The oft' requested) Oasis (Arguing Manc Beatle enthusiasts), Oasis (Adequate juice), Oasis (A shop with shoes so hot they were sure to blow your mind) and Oasis (A puddle in a desert).

Then, in a controversial last minute decision, we decide 'Which is the best?' between lip balm (Chapped lip soother) and a chip barm (What they call a chip butty in Manchester. To our American listeners, that is sort of like a French fry sandwich).

So, I guess, in a way, this is very much a Manchester themed episode.

By the way, the picture we've used here is from around the time Lee dyed his hair in the way he described in the episode, that tale emerging like the long suppressed memory it was. He's the one in the middle with 90s hair (It was in the 90s, so it's fine).

Episode 17 is recorded at a car park in Beamish museum.

If you are a regular, you'll know why. The picture that accompanies this episode is one that Sammy found from an earlier visit to this museum. Yes, THAT is what he looks like!

Episode 16 is here, it would probably be a themed 'Sweet 16' episode if that was a thing that had any cultural resonance in the Northeast of England. But it hasn't, so it isn't.

Instead, Lee and Sammy decide whether the AA (Car accident demi heroes) are better than AA (Booze crutches). They phone a lady who works for the AA with a question and she is nice so they feel bad.

Then, what of Beef (Cow flesh) and Beef (An argument between rappers)? Which is the best out of them? We have a beef (Argument one) about it.
