When Bo Nix decided to leave Auburn, few (if any) expected him to head north and join Oregon Football with their new coaching staff. With 5-star QB Ty Thompson seemingly the "next man up" as Oregon's signal caller, many Duck fans were caught off guard as well. At a recent media appearance, Bo Nix talked about why he decided to come to play for the Ducks with 2 years of eligibility remaining in college football.
When asked why he came to Oregon, Bo Nix gave a rather broad answer as to why he chose to come to Oregon after transferring away from the Auburn Football program. His past history with Oregon OC Kenny Dillingham, who was his OC (but not his play-caller) his freshman year at Auburn, is the most obvious reason that stands out. There could be some on-field reasons why he ultimately picked Eugene, but there's another off-field factor that might have factored into his decision.
Dana Altman said after the season he expected players from this past year to enter the transfer portal and explore their options. Eric Williams has decided to go pro, and now sophomore center Franck Kepnang has announced his name is in the transfer portal. The big man, originally from Cameroon, was a high-energy bench player who's growth became evident as the 2021-22 season went on. Though a surprise to many Duck fans, Kepnang's decision to leave the program after two years does not reflect poorly on the program or Dana Altman--rather, an increasingly crowded frontcourt.
