NEWSFLASH: You can do both.
Time and time again, I hear from incredible service members who feel pressured to choose between their military career and their personal passions. There’s a lingering stigma that says you shouldn’t pursue outside interests while on active duty — and I strongly disagree. Pursuing your passions doesn’t distract from your service, it strengthens it. It makes you a better leader, a more balanced human, and ultimately a stronger service member.
In this episode of the Why Not Do Both, I sit down with Dr. Corinne Devin, who proves exactly what multi-passionate leadership looks like in action. She shares how she built an exceptional Navy career while continuing to grow in other arenas that matter deeply to her.
Dr. Devin is a Navy Commander (now CAPT), orthodontist, public speaker, and dedicated volunteer currently stationed in Japan. Alongside her military and medical career, she is also a triple-crown beauty titleholder, earning major national and international titles including Ms. United States, Ms. Galaxy, Ms. Earth, and International Ms. She has balanced service and personal pursuits while also giving back, including serving as a keynote speaker at STEM conferences for the Department of Defense, inspiring more than 1,000 middle school girls across multiple countries.
Her message is powerful: being well-rounded isn’t a weakness, it’s a leadership advantage. Diverse passions build confidence, resilience, and impact.
Tune in to hear how pursuing your passions can actually make you a better leader and why you never have to choose just one path.
