Oregon Football and the entire athletics administration are, it seems, weighing the possibility of leaving the Pac-12 conference. Part of the reason the news about UCLA/USC is so groundbreaking for college football is their location--Los Angeles is now going to be part of "Big Ten Country'. If Oregon were to leave it's not likely they would go at it alone, and Washington may make the most sense as its "travel partner" if they were to switch conferences.
On this episode of Locked On Ducks, Spencer McLaughlin is joined by Max Torres, host of the Ducks Dish Podcast covering Oregon for Sports Illustrated (@mtorressports). Is there any pitch that new Pac-12 commissioner George Kliavkoff could make to convince Oregon and other notable schools like Washington to stay in a west coast-based conference? There may be one option, but it seems like a longshot.
There might be a path forward where Oregon remains in the conference of champions, but it might not be the best option. With USC and UCLA gone in 2024, the best path forward financially is likely a new conference for the Ducks. Regardless of which conference they play in, Oregon fans should take comfort in the fact that they are likely to be competitive and relevant no matter where they go--not all west coast fanbases have that luxury.
