  • Enough - Having to fake my own death in order to survive domestic violence with Adrienne Maclain

**Content Note - this episode contains some references to being suffocated with a pillow, sexual assault, domestic violence and abuse.

Dr Adrienne Maclain loves connecting – through her podcast That’s Aloud and through writing her books, starting with her memoir, Melting Ivory – Life happens for you, not to you and her new release step-by-step guide Enough – Breaking the cycle of emotional abuse in romantic relationships.

You can get a copy of Adrienne's books* by clicking here Melting Ivory – Life happens for you, not to you and her follow up book with help for you after reading her first book and opening your awareness,  Enough – Breaking the cycle of emotional abuse in romantic relationships.

Adrienne understands the first step to leaving an abusive relationship is the awareness of the abuse itself and the Why you are in this situation - but then what?

The next step is the how of getting out of these relationships and the importance of making the changes yourself that are needed to leave this relationship and also to learn how to avoid being caught in the pattern of abuse after leaving.

The understanding of the how came out of her own lived-in experiences, of which we will hear more in today’s episode.

From one of her recent podcasts on that’s aloud, she conversed on thoughtful topics, such as “Saying No is not the end of the conversation – it is the beginning.” And “Literally anything is possible, now the question is, what challenges are you willing to take on to do something highly improbably?” She is known for helping others harness creative energy and storytelling including through asking the question, What is the story that is not being told to the world right now?.... Could that be yours?

This is one of the reasons I am so excited to have her on the show today, as a woman whose vision is so aligned with my own passion for sharing and honouring stories and teaching you how to do it yourself, by giving you the permission to live a fulfilling life and the toolkit to follow through with action.

In her own words, “You can be still, you can just be. You can create something for just fun, you can be everything you are, without apology. That’s aloud.” Our Story Whisperer, Adrienne MacLain.

Adrienne's recommended book reading* includes Gift from the Sea by Anne Morrow Lindbergh,  The Artist's Journey: The Wake of the Hero's Journey and the Lifelong Pursuit of Meaning by Steven Pressfield  and Big Magic: How to Live a Creative Life, and Let Go of Your Fear by Elizabeth Gilbert you can grab your own copy here on Amazon. You can contact Adrienne at her website and through her own podcast That's Aloud.

  • Know Your Knockers - Young Breast Cancer Survivor Kat Houghton

Content awareness - discussions of breast cancer and conversations around potentially dying as a young mother.

When Katrina heard the words, you have breast cancer, she thought "Am I the youngest person to have this? Am I going to die?" Breast cancer affects many women of all ages and some men too! Listen to her story of resilience and good old Aussie humor mixed into the serious conversations we had together in what is an enlightening and insightful collection of stories, shared wisdom and real emotion. Kat created the  Breast Cancer Pocket Guide and Mastectomy fashion label KYK to help others who are undergoing the traumatic journey of a breast cancer diagnosis. She discusses many of the ways in which people dive head first into the world of losing their hair, losing their happiness and losing their boobs to cancer - and finding what really matters through all of this. A must listen to episode for sure.

Today's guest is Katrina Houghton, an avid sports person, having represented Australia in junior hockey and a mum of three, can understand the importance of keeping a healthy body and a healthy mind.

Where one in 8 women will develop invasive breast cancer in their lifetime and it is the second leading cause of cancer death in Australian women, Kat wanted to do something to help those going through the chemo, the surgery and the struggle to survive.

She developed the Know Your Knockers Breast Cancer Pocket Guide, consulting specialists and professionals in the industry for a succinct and usable resource for those receiving their diagnosis of cancer and going through treatment and after. The resources that the Pocket Book provided and how much her efforts were helping patients, Kat then saw another gap in the market for cancer warriors who had a mastectomy and struggled to find clothes to accommodate their changed physiology.

Her Know Your Knockers clothing line was created, and she was the winner of the Queensland Rural, Regional and Remote Women's Network Small Business Owner of the Year Award in November 2020. Using local designers, Kat has forged ahead to help many women feel sexy as they continue to live their lives with hope and renewed self-confidence.

Kat will talk a little more about her own adversities and why she became so passionate with this business venture where she sells the ‘tittie singlets’ It's so Aussie and I love it. And a range of unisex tees, including the fuuk cancer tees, because yes, guys can get breast cancer too.

The F.U.U.K spelling cleverly shows the two U's as boobs and is quite
the tongue in cheek approach. But sometimes let’s face it, survivors need to have a laugh for a moment along what can be a devastating journey for so many. As she says, “Cancer may have started the fight, but we will finish it”.

Kat's book recommendations* include Nevermoor Book Series 1-3 by Jessica Townsend, Harry Potter - The Complete Collection 7 Book Boxset by J.K Rowling, and The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment by Eckhart Tolle.

You can get in contact with Kat at her website and Facebook.

Discover how Mike has found help and healing through music and why his story is such a heartwarming and real conversation that will speak to many rhythms, from heavy metal to country to ... anyone's heart who has been kicked down by adversity and knows what it is to get back up.

Michael Stover of the Stoverload Music podcast. Mike has a history – in varying degrees through living as a kid in the 80’s with ‘little to nothing’ as he says and through his own experiences through life’s ups and downs. Having been a wrestling fan ‘forever’, he has continued to support many independent wrestlers and guests of the WWE Hall of Fame for 3 seasons during the TurnbucklePad show.

He then turned his skills to camera and music video production and launched the TurnbucklePad podcast which ran for 2 seasons. He has learned the value of uniqueness and how embracing our differences is one way we can continue to celebrate each other’s accomplishments and feeling of belonging. He likes to help people understand the importance of chasing their own dreams despite, and perhaps, because of the fear surrounding stepping out into your potential in what can be a noisy world. • Holding Space - Looking for love and finding myself - With Harrison Meagher

Harrison's episode will take you into the feel and calm of a highly insightful and vibrational resonating discussion on all the big and little things in life that make the simple complex, and the complex simple. As you listen to this episode, you will notice the shift in energy just after the hour mark when he gets into his WhyMe moment. We had a discussion about that shift later after the recording, and I may release it on the YouTube channel as it is very insightful! Gear up for a cracker of an episode!

Harrison Marr is a CHEK trained holistic health coach who guides others through healing energy through his “Body love blueprint” course. He combines bio hacking with his story of transformation to show you how to synergise your body and mind into boundless health.

You will find him on Clubhouse hosting rooms under his own club, appropriately called “Holding Space” and this is one of the ways Harrison and I have connected over the past weeks.

In his own words, He “ compassionately empowers each client with the tools needed to help them see that their body loves them, that their body is amazing and full of healing potential just waiting for them to unlock and harness.”

This passion for helping others find their deep sense of self-love has a transformational story behind the man. I am excited to hear about this story so let’s get right into the conversation.

  • How the bug eating my heart allowed me to decide my destiny with Kyle Spyrides

Kyle Spyrides, fellow photographer, creative at heart and an authentic human being who wants to help more people across the world, brings his complex yet astonishing story through domestic violence, displacement from home at 14, and a rare case of a bug that was literally eating his heart and taking his life. The irony is in starving the bug, Kyle discovered a whole different level of life that was possible as a result. You will love this episode. There is so much in this episode, each time I thought gosh, then Kyle would bring in another element. Adversity, eat your heart out, this bug tried and failed for Kyle, despite the odds, and it's a heartwarming story to hear. Well worth the listen. You will love this episode with 2 appearances of his late grandfather (which I left in due to the significance of the timing and conversation).

Kyle’s vision is to use his deep interest in powerful imagery, to spark something emotional within the viewer, through creating images, to draw you in and peak your interest, as you peel back the layers behind that one single moment captured in time.

Kyle understands the power of his photography and of his Decide your Destiny Daily dose videos, where he brings you tips on how you, can get the most out of your day, through the choices you make, and the ways in which you decide to be in your own space.

I will paraphrase as an illustration from one of Kyle’s videos about how to Own your own space.

“Deciding to say, No, I’m not going to have people telling me that I can do this, and I can’t do that, and I should do this and I shouldn’t do that. Say no. This is the space that I, am choosing to exist in, I am dedicating my life to, I am inspired to succeed in, I am going to hold no matter what. I’m not going to take NO for an answer - I’m going to stick here like a 40-tonne rock that a hurricane can’t even move. This is my space and I’m going to claim it. “

Oooh, I love that Kyle, I want to say I had chills thinking about you claiming your space, and me claiming my own space, and all of the listeners deciding to claim their own space in this world, for if we do not claim our own space, then how are we to expect others, to respect it?

Kyle's recommended reading book is Can't hurt me by David Goggins  and you can get your own copy right here on Amazon*.

You can contact Kyle on his Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and Website.

  • Be better than you: you already have everything you need - with Shay Stone

Shay is an author and her book has just hit the Best Seller list on Amazon in it's second day of release! Get your copy here (Be better than you: you already have everything you need to take your life to the next level By Shay Stone) on audio or paperback. This helps support Shay and the WhyMeMovement continue to create great content for you.

Shay is an animator and photographer – a creative soul like myself and perhaps one of the reasons I picked up on her fantastic energy. Shay and I connected through Clubhouse, and when I heard her share a small part of her story, and her perspective on life, I knew I needed to invite her onto my show for you.

Her work in tv, film and the gaming industry has given Shay the opportunity to stretch her skills in acting and creating wonderful experiences for others. I’ve been following Shay on Instagram, and her posts are inspiring and full of invitations to view another perspective, to shift limiting beliefs and to step into your unique power of potential.

With affirmations like “You didn’t come this far to only come this far….” Demonstrates the understanding Shay has for what drives herself and others forward on their journey.

Life has not always been easy, and Shay is here today to share with you, some of her whyme moments, including her recent journey through the grief of losing her mother. Shay posted an image of her mother on IG that took my breath away.

It was accompanied with the following prose, if I may quote Shay,

I’d like to start off by acknowledging the strongest, most brilliant beautiful black leader I’ve ever known. My Mother & Best Friend. 🕊

The Strength and Will within this woman is unmatched and incomparable to anyone I’ve ever met, seen, known or even heard of.
That’s no bias, that’s real. Her story and everything about her exudes Faith, unfathomable Strength and Determination — Hell, you can see it in her eyes.
A heart of Pure Gold and the Truest Definition of a Leader.
A woman of meaning, with very few words. Growing up, she gave me the space to figure things out. This, while she’d lead by Example. She’s always shown the way, more so than told — and continued to, literally up until her very last breath. I’ll never comprehend how she found herself to do the things she’s done, but I’m forever grateful she did - I am who I am because of it.
Thank you to my beautiful, strong black woman & mother, Ms. Glenda Stone. ❤️🕊
And all the black warriors and creators of this world. 🙏🏾❤️
Not to forget, those of us who are striving to be and do the same NOW.

You can contact Shay at her Linktr.ee.

Shay's recommended reading is for the book Rich Dad Poor Dad: What the Rich Teach Their Kids About Money That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not! By Robert T Kiyosaki and you can get your own copy right here on Amazon*.
