After a major upset of then #3-ranked Ohio State in 2021, Oregon Football found itself allowing an inferior Stanford team to hang around and ultimately leave victorious in Palo Alto with the Ducks ranked #3 in the country. This year's matchup between the Ducks and the Cardinal comes in the confines of Autzen Stadium, where Stanford has had more success over the last 10-12 years than most Pac-12 schools. Are the Ducks bound to erase the memory of last year's loss and defeat a potentially resurgent Stanford team in 2022?
On today's episode of Locked On Ducks, Spencer McLaughlin is joined by Max Torres, host of the 'Ducks Dish' podcast who covers the Ducks for Fan Nation at Sports Illustrated. They both expect the Cardinal to be an improved football team from 2021, but will it be enough to complete the daunting task of winning at Autzen Stadium? Having an NFL-caliber QB in Tanner McKee is a good place to start.
Perhaps the area where Stanford has lost its way the most is on the defensive side of the ball, where in years past their defensive fronts have given Oregon fits. The Ducks were missing their offensive coordinator in last year's game in Palo Alto (Joe Moorhead, now Akron HC) and that appeared to have a big impact on the offense. Spencer and Max also go through the biggest position group matchups to watch out for when these teams meet in week 5.
