Chicago’s famed Maxwell Street Market will be back in its original location this year. The market will be back on Maxwell Street between Halsted and Union for the 2024 season, which runs from May 26 to Oct. 27. The market happens on the last Sunday of each month except for August. That date has been set for Sept. 1. The market was moved from its original location in 1994 because of the expansion of the University of Illinois Chicago. The market was moved again in 2008 to Desplaines Avenue. Maxwell Street Market began as a Jewish market featuring businesses that were only open on Sundays.

The parent company of Dom’s Kitchen & Market and Foxtrot has filed for bankruptcy protection. The filing follows the abrupt closure of both stores on April 23. Crain’s reports the filing was made in Delaware and lists assets and liabilities each between $10 million and $50 million. The company has asked the court for immediate attention because property involved includes perishable goods and assets that could deteriorate or lose value without quick attention. Workers have filed lawsuits alleging the company violated workers’s rights by not giving them proper notice of layoffs. Hundreds of workers lost their jobs when the company stores closed.

The Museum of Science and Industry is being renamed after Ken Griffin, one of its financial benefactors. Griffin, the founder of Citadel, announced the $125 million dollar donation to the museum in 2019. MSI received the full gift in 2021. Starting May 19, the museum will be named the Kenneth C. Griffin Museum of Science and Industry. It’s taken several years to change legal documents, logos and other branding. The gift made way for several new exhibits and will also be used to bolster MSI’s endowment. Griffin moved to Miami from Chicago in 2022.

The University of Chicago will offer a new fellowship that will connect students with startups that are part of the school’s clean technology accelerator. As part of the Resurgence program, students will support startups in areas like financial modeling and projections, customer discovery, market opportunity assessment and investor readiness.
