1. A teenager is dead after a police chase in Milwaukee ended in a fiery crash. The pursuit started around 7:15 last night. Milwaukee police say they spotted the teen, who was wanted for a felony, driving recklessly. They tried to stop the teen near 19th and Hampton, but they say the driver refused, and that's when the chase began. The teen then smashed into a tree on Hampton and the car burst into flames. Police say the officers tried to rescue the teen, but he died at the scene. Two officers who tried to get him out of the fire were taken to the hospital for injuries.

2. After months of pauses and extensions, new tariffs from President Trump are now in effect. Americans could now face higher prices on everything from electronics and toys, to clothes, furniture, cars and produce. President Trump has argued the tariffs are part of a plan to drive more manufacturing in the United States. In a related story, Apple is committing another 100 billion dollars to build up domestic manufacturing, but has stopped short of committing the manufacturing of iPhones in the U.S.

3. A computer glitch had thousands of United Airlines customers sleeping in airports or sitting on planes overnight. The problem has now been fixed, but the residual effect has lingered into today. The problem was with the computer system that calculates the weight-and-balance of United aircraft. It's a crucial component in flight safety, so they had to do the national ground stop.

1. An award-winning journalist from Wisconsin who went missing in Norway has been found alive! Climate journalist Alec Luhn went missing during a solo hike on a Norwegian glacier on Thursday. His wife tells CBS News, he has a leg injury, but he's safe. Luhn is a native of Stoughton, Wisconsin. He graduated from UW-Madison's Journalism program. He's now based in London, and has reported for outlets like The New York Times, National Geographic, CBS News Radio, and The Atlantic. Luhn left for that solo hike last Thursday... but never showed up for his flight home. That's when his wife got worried, called the police, and searches began. It was a team in a rescue helicopter who spotted Luhn.

2. A blockbuster deal between the National Football League and a network that airs some of its games. ESPN will also acquire the NFL's fantasy product and merge it into its existing platform, making ESPN Fantasy Football the official game of the NFL. The agreements between ESPN and the NFL are subject to approval from NFL owners and government regulators.

2. The housing market appears to be loosening up. Locally, second quarter sales in the Greater Milwaukee Metro area were up 1.6 percent over the same time period in 2024, but June home sales were up 13.7% over a year ago. Still, the local market remains out of balance. The market average for listings per month is about 1800. To achieve balance, that number would need to grow to about 5500, roughly 6 months' worth of inventory. The average sale price of a home in the Greater Metro Area is just over $430,000.

3. The future of the mRNA vaccine. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F-Kennedy Junior is moving to stop funding research into the mRNA vaccine, which was instrumental in the fight against COVID. This is the latest development under Kennedy, a long-time vaccine skeptic, who's been making sweeping changes to re-shape vaccines, food, and medicine policies.
