When we think about our basic physiological needs, food, water, shelter, and clothing comes to mind yet oxygen is the crucial element for survival. The brain uses about 20% of the body’s oxygen supply, which allows it to perform both conscious and autonomic processes and without oxygen brain damage occurs after three to six minutes of anoxia. Since breathing takes little to no effort for most of us, we often neglect to think about how it affects our daily lives. In this episode, we are going to discuss the importance of breathing and the scale at which children are impacted.
We are excited to announce that this episode is part of our women in medicine series where we learn from the stories and expertise of amazing women in medicine.
Today, I am so fortunate to be joined by an exceptional woman in medicine, my colleague Dr. Robin Deterding.
