With this podcast, my online course, and other ventures, my goal is to increase the education of clinicians and the public on topics related to women's mental health and reproductive psychiatry. One of my favorite yearly learning opportunities is the annual Bay Area Reproductive Mental Health Conference. In this episode, I'll summarize the learning pearls I gleaned from my attendance last week. Topics include the psychology of assisted reproductive health, black maternal mental health, matrescence and identity, cannabis for perimenopause, yoga for perinatal depression, and navigating trauma and loss.

Dr. Megan Melo, a family medicine physician and life coach, joins us to talk about a very relatable topic - perfectionism and people-pleasing. In this conversation, we illustrate some common examples and you might find yourself nodding along, and give you some practical mindset tools, including the role of self-compassion, to help you get past these challenges and feel more fulfilled and less anxious in your life. We chat about the role of society expectations for women, midlife challenges, how ADHD and other neurodivergencies present differently in women, menopausal treatments, and much more.

The loneliness epidemic has been plaguing Americans, with the surgeon general coming out last year saying that loneliness is equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes per day in terms of the impact on our health. The solution is social connection, and in this episode we'll discuss how social connection impacts our health and three specific ways to engage and create new friends.
