This week we continue our stint in Sydney with one of our favourite comedians of all time, Kate Dolan. Originally from the UK, Kate chose the most expenny city in Australia to start one of the hardest careers: standup comedy. Bretty puts his foot in it INSTANTLY when he lists one of her achievements as being ‘a wife’, and he will never live that down. Kate has had every job under the sun, from a dreadful scam artist at a call centre, to an after school care worker, and it’s safe to say she won’t need to do any of that stuff soon because her trajectory is BRIGHT. We both loved and hated hearing about her worst ever gig with misogynistic coke-heads, but the best part of this episode and of Bron’s life was when Kate got Bretty to do an Anastasia impersonation. We loved this episode more than life itself, so go treat yourself and relish in this week’s ‘Work Hates’!

This week we travel all the way to Sydney to record with some of our favourite Sydney comedians. Fresh after our live show, and with a little bit of self inflicted brain damage, we have a chat with the woman of the moment, Steph Broadbridge. She might be making waves in the media at the moment for her parody musical she can’t talk about, but we’ve known Steph for years as being a solid crusher. Before this, she was an usher for The Voice where she was in charge of not letting people go to the toilet and refusing to let fugggos anywhere near the camera. Now as a comedian, she has had some of the nastiest gigs, including people climbing on the stage to confront her, or following someone who has had a beer bottle thrown at them. That’s showbiz babyyyy!! We loved this chat, so go on, do yourself a solid and enjoy this episode of ‘Work Hates’!

To celebrate a whole year of ‘Work Hates’ podcast, we did our first ever live show and it was bloody excellent. Special guests Nikki Britton and Luke Heggie were the perfect sweet and salty additions, and we discovered one of them spewed in a mascot suit and the other made themself vomit from their own fart. December 15, 2024 Ep 51: Aunty Donna director Max Miller gushed over Dusty Martin.
This week on ‘Work Hates’ we chat with director, producer and all round good bloke, Max Miller. He’s most famous as the director and one of the writers of one of Australia’s biggest comedy successes: Aunty Donna. We asked Max if he ever wanted to be one of the actors, and he said, “It was hard enough to agree to coming on this podcast”. The man is the classic behind-the-scenes kind of guy, which feels like a waste because he’s bloody hilarious. Max started his working career selling raw poultry, and thankfully the only way was up. We learned about the time he directed Bretty and Dustin Martin in a Bonds ad, and he graciously reads out the feedback on said ad from internet trolls. Max brings a whole new perspective to both the poultry and the entertainment industry, and we couldn’t be happier with that. Enjoy this episode of ‘Work Hates’!

This week we celebrate 50 EPISODES of ‘Work Hates’, and who better to celebrate with than Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes. This man is Australian comedy royalty, with one of the most distinct voices on the planet, but more importantly, a work ethic that is incomparable to any other. Hughesy comes from a working class family in Warrnambool, and the way the man hustles it would seem he hasn’t shaken that identity even in the slightest. The man WORKS HARD! From working in an abattoir to being a bricklayer’s runner, he isn’t afraid to get uncomfortable. In saying that, he has been fired from everything except comedy, so it’s bloody lucky his comedy career took off. We had a hoot chatting with Hughesy, so treat yourself and enjoy this episode of ‘Work Hates’!

This week on ‘Work Hates’ we have a yarn with comedian, actor and online sensation, Aaron Gocs AKA Gocsy. We were over the moon when Gocsy agreed to coming on the podcast because this is a man who has a resume longer than the Bible. You may know him from his famous corn video where he was eating corn whilst wearing cornrows and listening to Korn, but he has more skills than that. He’s done everything from being a security guard at teenage birthday parties, driven a taxi, acted in a Ford ad and removed rubbish people’s yards. He’s a jack of all trades, and he has the optimism of a saint. We love Gocsy, and you will too! Enjoy this episode of ‘Work Hates’!

This week on ‘Work Hates’ we chat with television presenter, comedian, mother and a pillar of Australian entertainment, Julia Morris. She has been in the industry for (in her words) “75 years” so she has seen more dreadful gigs than anyone in the world. Her career has been spectacular from the outside, and her tenacity has allowed her to stay in a profession that has been infamously unenthusiastic towards women. Julia has been thrown under the bus on national television by colleagues in search of a leg-up, and she has also embraced younger talent wholeheartedly. This is a self-made woman who walks into a room with her heart on her sleeve, and even though she may not remember anyone’s name, she is absolutely willing to pretend she has. We could have spoken to Lady Julia Morris of Gosford for hours, so you’re in for a treat. Enjoy this episode of ‘Work Hates’.

This week on ‘Work Hates’ we speak to military veteran turned comedian, Jarryd Goundrey. He served seven-years in the army and he has two busted knees, impaired hearing and a bucket load of stories to prove it. Jarryd has willingly been tear-gassed, he’s almost drowned in a water submerged helicopter, and he’s learnt exactly what to do if the Taliban capture him. He shed light on ‘military groupies’ who are willing to jump into the boot of a car if it ended in a root at Duntroon, which Brett respected and Bron didn’t. We haven’t had a soldier on the podcast before, and this episode quickly became one of our all time favourites. Strap yourselves in, and enjoy this episode of ‘Work Hates’.

Bec has a special out on YouTube called ‘Bipolar Baby’ that has gone gangbusters, but before she was a successful standup comedian, she was a Perth pest leaving strange notes on her boss’ desk and shagging blokes on the beach. UNHINGED! Just when we thought we couldn’t love this woman more, she tells us the story of her worst ever gig, and we don’t think anyone will ever top it. You’ll love this one, mates. November 03, 2024 Ep 45: Nat Harris had a workplace complaint about her so severe the Mayor found out
This week on ‘Work Hates’ we chat to Nat Harris, ‘Triple R’ breakfast radio host and comedian. Nat has a long history with the cafe industry in Melbourne, and we quickly learn that the effervescent energy she exhibits in comedy was not exactly there when she was making coffees. She moved from flat whites to working at the council where she came to realise that even the worst of cafe customers couldn’t compare to the absolute psychos that call the council to complain. Nat shared her worst ever gig, which happened to be in Edinburgh Fringe which resulted in her almost crying on stage, followed by a brutal review by a hateful mongrel. Nat is a breath of fresh air, and we pity the fools that ever cross her in the future. Enjoy this episode of ‘Work Hates’
