Sally Mancini is Director of Advocacy Resources at the Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity, leading efforts to inform the public, community organizations, advocates, and policy makers about the Center’s research related to food marketing to children and its impact on health disparities. She also helps state and local advocates develop the resources necessary to support food policy improvements in all communities.

Jennifer Walker-Vice President of Communications and Advocacy for the Alzheimer's Association Connecticut Chapter. Alzheimer’s and Fund-Raising Walks. There are more than 5 million people in the United States and over 75 thousand in Connecticut with Alzheimer’s. Jennifer says the association provides care and support year-round and raises money for research. Alzheimer’s is the sixth leading cause of death and it the only one of the top ten that does not have a prevention treatment or cure. That is why Jennifer says it is important for research to be funded and for those who have Alzheimer's their care givers and families it is important to provide care support and education, which the Alzheimer's Association does.

Joining Bill Pearce in studio this week is Donna Swanson- MSN,CS,ARPN-Executive Director  and co-founder of FOCUS Center   for   Autism and  the Fresh Start School in Canton. The Fresh Start School is a nonprofit and has created a revolutionary model that gives students the tools to modify their behavior and eliminate obstacles to learning and socializing. Donna says FOCUS has redefined it as planned learning environments in which every day events and interpersonal interactions are turned to therapeutic use for the purpose of enhancing adaptive behavior skills and building confidence in the tools needed for ordinary living situations. The three components employed are Social Learning Environments, Mentorship and Collaboration.

Aaron Kupec talks with Diana Wetzel, Commissioner of Education. They discuss the state’s budget impasse and how it is effecting the start to school season for many districts.

Annual medical costs for those who are obese are almost 15 hundred dollars higher than those of normal weight. He says minorities have the highest rates of obesity, over 40 percent,
