President Biden claims to have created more jobs than any other president, yet the sector with the largest job gains was government, while manufacturing was near the bottom. The US currently has 23 million government workers compared to just 13 million factory workers. Out of the entire workforce of 268.6 million, government jobs account for 8.5% of total employment in the US. In Austria, a country that is much more socialist than the US, government employment makes up only 3.9% of the workforce.
The key difference between a factory worker and a government employee is that a factory worker contributes directly to the economy. In the first quarter of 2024, manufacturers contributed $2.87 trillion to the U.S. economy. Manufacturing, not government, is also a major attractor of foreign direct investment (FDI). In 2023, U.S. manufacturing attracted $2.2 trillion in FDI, accounting for about 40% of the total $5.39 trillion in FDI.

Biden-Harris Admin Says It Replenished America’s Depleted Oil Reserves, but Supply Remains at Record Lows
The Biden-Harris administration is boasting that it has “secured” back the oil it drained from the country’s emergency reserves in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. But in reality, the reserve’s supply remains just slightly above record lows and isn’t on track to be fully replenished until the early 2030s, leaving the United States vulnerable to future energy crises.
Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm announced on July 29 that the Department of Energy had repurchased a total of 43 million barrels of oil and canceled future sales on another 140 million, meaning the Biden-Harris administration had “secured the 180 million barrels back to the Strategic Petroleum Reserve released in response to Putin’s war in Ukraine.” That total doesn’t include drawdowns of 30 million barrels that President Joe Biden ordered in November 2021 and again in March 2022 to combat high prices at the pump.
The Hill, in response, reported that the Biden-Harris administration had “replenished the 180 million barrels of oil” from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, and Granholm stated months earlier that the reserve would “be at or exceeding the level prior” to the administration’s 180-million-barrel drawdown by the end of 2024.
But the 140 million barrels weren’t directly repurchased. Instead, the department said it merely canceled future sales that were scheduled through 2027 and mandated by law, meaning the Strategic Petroleum Reserve is still missing the 140 million.
And although the Department of Energy said it had purchased upwards of 40 million barrels to replenish the reserve, as of Monday, the reserve has only increased by 29.1 million barrels from its low recorded in July 2023, according to the Energy Information Administration. That increase represents just 12 percent of the total amount Biden ordered to be withdrawn from the reserve in 2021 and 2022.
By repurchasing just a portion of the oil sold, the administration appears to be content leaving the reserve at a far lower volume than normal for the foreseeable future, leaving the nation vulnerable to future energy crises.
Overall, the current level of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve is 376.5 million barrels, down 41 percent compared to its level of 638.1 million barrels recorded in January 2021 when Biden took office. The president’s actions took the reserve down to its lowest levels since August 1983, shortly after the reserve had been established by Congress as a mechanism to bolster energy security

Vice President Harris blindsided Democratic lawmakers and progressive activists by endorsing a proposal first floated by former President Trump to exempt tips for service and hospitality workers from taxes, an idea Democrats had previously criticized as “bogus” and a “ploy” for votes.
Harris’s support for the idea is being seen as an aggressive play for votes in Nevada, a critical swing state where service workers will be key, and as an effort to neutralize whatever advantage Trump may have gained by first floating the idea during meetings with GOP lawmakers on Capitol Hill in June.

Foreign Cyberattack’ Hits US City As Local Police Claim Bank Accounts Have Been Hacked: Report
A foreign cyberattack has reportedly hit the city of Columbus, Ohio.
The attack has disrupted various city servers and appears to have compromised data, reports the Colombia Dispatch.
The ransomware group Rhysida says it’s behind the hack, listing a trove of new data for sale on the dark web.
“We have been impacted significantly by a foreign cyber-attack designed to disrupt the city’s IT infrastructure.
While an encryption attempt was prevented, we do believe some of our data has been accessed. This is still a very fluid investigation.”
“Some guys are saying, hey, my credit cards got hacked. Some are saying there’s been bank account (issues), I’ve been getting alerts saying someone is trying to open up a line of credit in my name…
Another individual said money was taken out of my bank account that I didn’t take out.”

The Federal Reserve Does Not Own Gold

the Fed has owned no gold since 1934, when the Fed handed over all its gold in exchange for gold certificates. This is how the Fed’s Board of Governors summarizes the situation:
The Federal Reserve does not own gold.
The Gold Reserve Act of 1934 required the Federal Reserve System to transfer ownership of all of its gold to the Department of the Treasury. In exchange, the Secretary of the Treasury issued gold certificates to the Federal Reserve for the amount of gold transferred at the then-applicable statutory price for gold held by the Treasury.
Gold certificates are denominated in U.S. dollars. Their value is based on the statutory price for gold at the time the certificates are issued. Gold certificates do not give the Federal Reserve any right to redeem the certificates for gold.
The statutory price of gold is set by law. It does not fluctuate with the market price of gold and has been constant at $42 2/9, or $42.2222, per fine troy ounce since 1973. The book value of the gold held by the Treasury is determined using the statutory price.
Moreover, given that the Fed’s gold certificates have essentially no connection to the actual market price of gold, changes in the price of gold have virtually no effect on the value of the Fed’s assets.
The only way gold prices would become relevant to the Fed’s portfolio would be for the Congress to change the statutory price of gold from $42.2222.
If the Treasury finds itself truly strapped for cash, the Congress would only have to declare the Fed’s gold certificates permanently unredeemable.
Or, the Treasury could simply buy back the gold certificates at the ridiculously low statutory price. Then there would be no doubt about who owns that gold.

The records indicated that Hunter Biden reached out at least once on behalf of the Ukrainian company to the U.S. ambassador to Italy in 2016. But U.S. officials seemed wary of Hunter Biden’s request on behalf of a foreign entity.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against General Motors (GM), alleging that the automotive giant engaged in deceptive and unlawful business practices by collecting and selling private driving data from over 1.5 million Texans without their knowledge or consent.
This lawsuit follows Paxton’s announcement in June 2024 that he had launched an investigation into several car manufacturers suspected of improperly harvesting vast amounts of data directly from vehicles.
The findings have been alarming, revealing a disturbing trend among companies leveraging invasive technologies to exploit unsuspecting consumers.
“Our investigation revealed that General Motors has engaged in egregious business practices that violated Texans’ privacy and broke the law. We will hold them accountable,” said Attorney General Paxton. “Companies are using invasive technology to violate the rights of our citizens in unthinkable ways.”
The crux of the lawsuit centers around GM’s use of technology installed in most vehicles manufactured since 2015. This technology allegedly collects, records, analyzes, and transmits detailed driving data every time a driver uses their vehicle, according to the press release.
Shockingly, GM sold this sensitive information to various third parties, including insurance companies, who used it to generate “Driving Scores” aimed at influencing insurance premiums.
“A customer’s Driving Score was based on a series of “factors” developed by General Motors that were supposedly indicative of “bad” driving behavior and included behavior such as (1) unique identifiers of a trip; (2) trip mileage; (3) hard braking and acceleration events; (4) speed events over 80 miles per hour; and (5) other behavior tracked by OnStar Vehicle Diagnostics (“OVD”). Under the Verisk Agreement, GM provided Verisk with the Driving Data necessary to determine whether a customer exhibited any “bad” driving behaviors,” according to the lawsuit.

Poland received a European arrest warrant issued by Berlin in connection with the 2022 attack on Nord Stream pipelines, but the suspect, a Ukrainian man named as Volodymyr Z, has already left Poland, Polish prosecutors told Reuters.
He was able to leave as Germany had failed to include his name in a database of wanted persons, added the prosecutors.

Planned Parenthood Set to Close Four Facilities in New York State, Pause Abortions at 20+ Weeks in Manhattan Facility

‘They’ll Try To Get Up Again’: US Rushes To Contain Resurgence Of Islamic State In Syria
U.S. forces are rushing to subdue a resurgence of the Islamic State in Syria, several U.S. and allied officials told The Wall Street Journal.
The U.S. largely defeated the Islamic State in Syria alongside the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in 2019 through a coordinated global military effort to remove the terrorist group from the area. But the terrorist group is now expanding its forces and launching attacks on allied troops at high levels, and U.S. and SDF forces are quickly working to break apart the group before it becomes too dangerous a threat, officials told the WSJ.
“This year has been the worst year since we defeated Islamic State,” Gen. Rohilat Afrin, co-commander of the SDF, told the WSJ, speaking from a U.S. base in Syria. “No matter how much you knock them down, they’ll try to get up again.”
Islamic State is recruiting new militants — eventually destined to become suicide bombers — and making efforts to free thousands of imprisoned fighters, according to the WSJ. The terrorist group has already claimed responsibility for over 153 attacks in Syria and Iraq in just the first half of 2024.

This was not a hostile interview; it was an extremely comprehensive talk. This was much better—and infinitely more informative—than Dana Bash’s hostile attacks on Vance when she “interviewed” him.
The assassination attempt. Musk complimented Trump’s courage under fire. Trump, in turn, mourned Corey Comperatore and spoke well of the other two shooting victims. He also complimented the Secret Service sniper and agents around him while noting the USSS’s failure to coordinate on the ground. He found a beautiful irony in the fact that his illegal immigration chart saved his life.
Illegal immigration. Musk and Trump agreed that immigrants must come in legally. Both noted that Harris owned the border and that she and Biden could close the border tomorrow. Internation situation. Musk states that the world’s bad actors need to be afraid of the U.S. Neither Biden nor Harris will ever make them afraid. Trump responds that the Biden administration’s and Harris’s inability to inspire fear is why our world is dangerous and in turmoil. He points out that Biden shut down the Keystone Pipeline at the same time he approved the Russian pipeline. If Trump were in charge, neither Hamas nor Russia would have attacked.
Elon’s Government Efficiency Commission: Trump embraces Argentina’s Milei for his small government approach. Musk notes that both Argentina and Venezuela should be doing well, but bad government policy hampers the latter.
Department of Education: Trump says that he wants to abolish the Department of Education. Doing say will cut education costs and improve state education outcomes.
The economy: Trump points out that it was the best for blue-collar workers, especially blacks and Hispanics. Trump and Musk believe Trump can turn the economy around.

Musk thinks that CO2 buildup will become a problem of over 1000 ppm CO2. We need to move to it within 75 to 100 years. Trump is not all in on that.

Regulatory bureaucracy: Musk states that, in general, overregulation destroys society. Trump agrees and says that he was able to address it in one very important area—drug approval.

The United Auto Workers (UAW) union has filed federal labor charges against former President Donald Trump and billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk.
Specifically, they have accused Trump and Musk of attempting to intimidate and threaten workers who exercise their rights to engage in protected activities such as strikes.
During the interview, Trump made a statement regarding striking workers, suggesting that companies should have the right to make tough decisions about their workforce.

Some of the best hackers in the world gathered in Las Vegas over the weekend to try to break into voting machines that will be used in this year’s election — all with an eye to helping officials identify and fix vulnerabilities.
The problem? Their findings will likely come too late to make any fixes before Nov. 5.
In one sense, it’s the normal course of events: Every August, hackers at the DEF CON conference find security gaps in voting equipment, and every year the long and complex process of fixing them means nothing is implemented until the next electoral cycle.
Organizers and participants at the DEF CON Voting Village found cyber vulnerabilities in everything from voting machines to e-poll books, but there is no time before the November elections to fully implement their findings.
But Election Day security is under particular scrutiny in 2024. A report from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services “to identify patterns, trends, and potential fraud indicators,” led to the program, known as CHNV for the first initials of the nations covered, being put on pause, according to a report on the website of the Federation for American Immigration Reform.
FAIR said that the report showed “the use of fake Social Security Numbers (SSNs), including SSNs of deceased individuals, and the use of false phone numbers.” In fact, it said, “24 of the 1,000 most used sponsor SSNs belong to a deceased individual.”
FAIR wrote that obviously fake Social Security Numbers were often used by sponsors “such as ‘111111111’ or ‘123456789’ or ‘666666666’ — proving that fraudulent data was being brazenly provided to the government.”
The USCIS report also showed that some addresses were used over and over by multiple applicants.
The report said that 100 addresses were listed on more than 19,000 immigration applications.
Many of the immigrants seeking entry applied from locations that included a mobile park home, a warehouse, and a storage unit.
Multiple applications came through the same IP address, the report said, noting that 51,133 applications came from 100 IP addresses.
The report also noted that identical answers appeared on multiple applications, noting that the same answer to one question appeared on more than 10,000 applications.
Phone numbers were often repeated, the report said.

New evidence shows that Thomas Matthew Crooks, the man suspected of attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump, had been intensely preparing for his attack at the Clairton Sportsmen’s Club, a facility frequented by multiple federal agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
According to the documents released by Grassley’s office on Thursday, Crooks signed up for a membership at the gun club on August 10, 2023.
His alarming pattern of behavior is highlighted by the fact that he visited the range 20 times within just four months of joining. Notably, his dedication to rifle practice was evident, with 80% of his visits focused solely on honing his skills with long guns.
“He focused almost exclusively on the rifle range throughout 2024,” Grassley’s office said in a statement per the New York Post.
Crooks visited the club 43 times within the past year and even spent major holidays, including Christmas Day, Valentine’s Day, and Halloween, under federal law enforcement’s nose.
Crooks’ final visit to the Clairton Sportsmen’s Club occurred just one day before he attempted to assassinate Trump.
According to ABC News, “The Clairton Sportsmen’s Club previously confirmed to ABC News that Crooks visited the gun club for the last time on July 12 — the day before the rally. He visited the range at 2:45 p.m. local time that day, according to the records released by Grassley’s office.”

Abbott Orders Texas Hospitals To Report Health Care Costs For Illegal Immigrants
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott issued an executive order on Aug. 8 requiring that hospitals collect data on patients living illegally in the United States and report the costs of medical services provided to them.
In a statement, Abbott said he aims to collect data on illegal immigrants who use public hospitals so that Texas can seek reimbursement from the federal government for their medical expenses.
“Texas will hold the Biden-Harris Administration accountable for the consequences of their open border policies, and we will fight to ensure that they pay back Texas for their costly and dangerous policies,” the Republican governor stated.
Under the executive order, Texas hospitals are required to collect data on inpatient discharges and emergency visits by illegal immigrants, as well as the costs of medical services provided to them, starting on Nov. 1.
Hospitals will need to report the information to the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) by March 1, 2025, and continue reporting data on a quarterly basis.
The executive order also requires that hospitals inform patients that, under federal law, their responses to questions about their immigrant status will not affect patient care.

Hunter Biden was hired by a Romanian oligarch in an ‘attempt to influence U.S. government agencies,’ earning around $1 million for work that was structured to avoid ‘political ramifications’ for Joe Biden, who was then vice president.
The bombshell claim was revealed in court filings on tied to the younger Biden’s federal tax case. And it marks the closest prosecutors have come to tying President Biden to his son’s overseas business deals.
Gabriel Popoviciu, a real estate tycoon, was facing bribery and corruption charges in his home country. In an attempt to avoid the charges, Popoviciu hired Hunter Biden and his business associates in late 2015 to help his case.
Hunter, however, was ‘concerned that lobbying work might cause political ramifications’ for his father, so the deal was structured in a way that ‘concealed the true nature of the work he was performing.’
Prosecutors allege, in order to avoid the Foreign Agents Registration Act, Hunter and Popoviciu signed an agreement where Hunter’s law firm would ‘provide management services to real estate properties in Romania.’
But ‘that was not actually’ what Popoviciu was paying for. He and Hunter had a ‘oral’ agreement on what Hunter Biden would actually do – influence U.S. agencies on the tycoon’s behalf.
The deal was structured to avoid FARA because Hunter was concerned about ‘political ramifications’ for his father, the documents state. In 2016, Biden was vice president and weighing a presidential bid, which he ultimately did not pursue until the 2020 election.
Under the FARA law, the Justice Department requires any American doing lobbying business for a foreign government to register as a foreign agent.

A U.S. appeals court upheld a Maryland law banning assault-style weapons on Tuesday, ruling that the law does not violate the Second Amendment.
The Firearms Policy Coalition, Second Amendment Foundation, Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms and several Maryland citizens brought up the case challenging the constitutionality of the state’s “military-style assault weapons” ban, prohibiting the sale and possessions of the AR-15, AK-47 and Barrett .50 caliber sniper rifle, among others. The ban has been in place since 2013 following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that killed 20 children and six adults in Connecticut.
Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC) president Brandon Combs said in a statement following the decision that the group plans on taking the suit to the Supreme Court.
Five judges dissented from the ruling, and in a dissenting opinion one judge argued the ban did violate the Second Amendment and accused the court’s majority of “cherry-pick[ing]” historical regulation to create a false precedent.
“The Second Amendment is not a second-class right subject to the whimsical discretion of federal judges,” Circuit Judge Julius Richardson wrote in the dissenting opinion. “Its mandate is absolute and, applied here, unequivocal.”

A federal complaint unsealed in Brooklyn has charged Asif Merchant, also known as “Asif Raza Merchant,” a 46-year-old Pakistani national, with murder-for-hire in connection with a foiled assassination plot targeting a politician or U.S. government officials on American soil.
The plot was thwarted by law enforcement before any attack could be executed. Merchant is currently in federal custody in New York, according to the press release.
FBI investigators believe that the intended targets of the plot included Trump and other current and former U.S. government officials, according to a U.S. official briefed on the matter, per CNN.
According to court documents, Merchant orchestrated a plot to assassinate a politician or U.S. government officials on U.S. soil. In approximately April 2024, after spending time in Iran, Merchant arrived in the United States from Pakistan and contacted a person he believed could assist him with the scheme.
Merchant arranged to pay $5,000 in cash as an advance for the assassination services and successfully delivered this payment on June 21. Following this transaction, he made plans to leave the country on July 12, 2024, one day before Trump’s assassination attempt. However, law enforcement intervened and arrested him before he could depart.

The Secret Service said Monday it “disposed of” cocaine found last year at the White House — responding to a report about alleged infighting on its fate following a partial DNA match.
“The evidence from that investigation was disposed of in accordance with retention policies,” Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in an email.
Guglielmi did not state the specific retention policy, but broadly dismissed as “false” allegations outlined by a trio of sources to RealClearPolitics, which reported that President Biden’s then-Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle wanted to destroy the cocaine but faced internal opposition.
Cheatle was “really pissed off” when her request was rebuffed by subordinates who cited protocols requiring that the evidence be retained for seven years, the publication reported.
The Secret Service closed its investigation just 11 days after the cocaine was found — without interviewing any potential suspects — giving the impression that the agency wasn’t interested in learning the facts behind the embarrassing incident.

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) signed legislation making Florida the 26th constitutional carry state in the Union. However, unlike so many other states–wherein constitutional carry means you can carry open or concealed for self-defense without a permit–in Florida, constitutional carry only applies to carrying concealed.
Openly carrying a firearm for self-defense remains prohibited in Florida, and GOA is filing suit to challenge that ban.
The complaint continues, “This blatant infringement of the Second Amendment right to ‘bear arms’ runs counter to this nation’s historical tradition and would have criminalized the very colonists who openly carried their muskets and mustered on the greens at Lexington and Concord to fight for their independence.”

Russian military intelligence officers are believed to have been deployed to Yemen to assist the Iran-backed Houthis with targeting commercial vessels in the Red Sea, Middle East Eye can reveal. Members of Russia’s GRU military intelligence are operating in the Houthi-controlled territory of Yemen in an advisory role, a senior US official told MEE, speaking on condition of anonymity and citing US intelligence.
The exact nature of the Russians’ role is murky, but the US official said that GRU officers have been operating in Yemen for “several months” to assist the Houthis in their targeting of commercial shipping, which the Houthis say is in solidarity with besieged Palestinians in Gaza.
The sensitive deployment comes as Russia has been eyeing ways to step up its support for the Iran-backed Houthis.
President Vladimir Putin mulled providing the Houthis with sophisticated anti-ship cruise missiles, but was dissuaded from doing so after the direct intervention of Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, MEE revealed in June.
The Wall Street Journal confirmed the report in July but added that the US is still concerned Putin could arm the Houthis, potentially as a way to dissuade the US from allowing Ukraine to strike deeper into Russian territory.
“If Russia were to give the Houthis arms, putting technical advisors on the ground would be the first step to doing so,” Samuel Ramani, an expert on Russia’s foreign policy in the Middle East and Africa at the Royal United Services Institute, told MEE.
