Bank of Canada Cuts Rates For Second Consecutive Month, Says “Reasonable” To Expect More
The Bank of Canada, which last month became the first G7 bank to launch an easing cycle, moments ago cut interest rates by a quarter percentage point for a second consecutive meeting and signaled further easing ahead as inflation worries wane.
The cut was expected by virtually all surveyed economists; OIS priced in about 22bps of cuts into the decision. A recent easing of inflationary pressures and the central bank’s inflation forecast prompted the decision.

FBI raids former Hochul aide’s $3.5M Long Island home
A former aide to Gov. Kathy Hochul reportedly had her $3.5 million Long Island home raided by the FBI early Tuesday.
The feds carried out the pre-dawn search at the five-bedroom property where Linda Sun, one of Hochul’s former deputy chiefs of staff, lives in a gated community in Manhasset, law enforcement sources told The Post.
The reason for the raid, first reported on by the New York Times, wasn’t immediately clear.

Neither Sun, 40, nor her husband, Chris Hu, 41, have been accused of any wrongdoing. No arrests were made during the raid, according to sources.

Vice President Harris will be notably absent from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to a joint session of Congress on Wednesday, a move some Republicans called “petty.”

The Democrat party will reportedly change the rules and coronate Vice President Kamala Harris as its nominee in the first week of August, weeks before the Democratic national convention.

David Warrington, counsel for Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, sent letters to the heads of ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX demanding that if they air Biden’s primetime address, Trump be given equal time to make his own case to the public. Former President Trump said Tuesday he would be willing to debate Vice President Harris more than once in the upcoming election cycle, even as he signaled he may not be willing to participate in a debate hosted by ABC News.
Trump said he would “absolutely” debate Harris, the likely Democratic nominee after President Biden stepped aside, at least once before Election Day. But he blasted ABC News, the planned host for a Sept. 10 presidential debate.

Hackers leaked stolen documents from a massive IT company that services the Pentagon.
According to Bloomberg News, the IT company, Leidos Holdings, recently learned about the breach and believe the documents were stolen from Diligent Corp.
“The Virginia-based company, which counts the U.S. Department of Defense as its primary customer, used the Diligent system to host information gathered in internal investigations, the report added, citing a filing from June 2023.” Reuters reported.

Poll: Most Michigan Voters Oppose Biden-Harris Electric Car Mandate
The majority of likely voters in the swing state of Michigan oppose President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris’s Electric Vehicle (EV) mandate, which seeks to phase out gas-powered cars regardless of the impact on the jobs and wages of the nation’s auto workers.
The Detroit Free Press poll, which surveyed 600 likely voters in Michigan, finds that 55 percent of Michiganders oppose Biden and Harris’s EV mandate, which will require automakers to produce and sell more EVs to rid the market of gas-powered cars.

As the Secret Service fields a barrage of investigations on the Trump shooting, it is also set to face the release of a report on another bruising episode: its response to the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.
Investigators in the Inspector General’s Office for the Department of Homeland Security — the Secret Service’s parent agency — have finished a long-awaited report on the violence that day and shared it with the Secret Service to review, a standard practice. The report, which could cast light on a series of embarrassing security lapses for the agency, could be released as soon as this week, according to a congressional aide briefed on the matter and granted anonymity to discuss private conversations. Sensitive reports sometimes take longer than anticipated to become public.
The Department of Homeland Security Headquarters also signs off on such reports before their release, but it is unclear if it has done so yet. The report’s status was also detailed in a document reviewed by POLITIC

Trump gunman had Michigan school shooter’s photo, foreign encrypted apps, FBI tells Congress
That phone included an arrest photo and other information related to Ethan Crumbley, who was convicted in the deadly 2021 shooting at Oxford High School in Michigan, as well as information about Crumbley’s parents, the sources said, speaking only on condition of anonymity.
The phone also included stock images of firearms and guns, articles regarding U.S. government figures as well as a screenshot of online live coverage of July 13 rally saved at 6:01pm, about 10 minutes before Crooks began shooting from a rooftop near the Butler, Pa., venue where Trump was speaking.
One of the most tantalizing pieces of evidence from the phone, according to the sources, was three foreign encrypted platforms used by Crooks that were apparently based in Germany, New Zealand, and Belgium. The encryption on the apps “poses a significant challenge,” according to one source.
The FBI’s closed-door briefings also provided a far more detailed timeline about the events leading up to the shooting than Cheatle offered the House Oversight Committee, including that the Secret Service first conducted a site survey at the Butler event venue on July 8 that included the AGR industrial building that Crooks eventually used as a shooter’s nest, the sources said,

Feds discover transcripts of Biden chats with biographer
The Justice Department told a federal judge that it has located transcripts it previously denied having of President Joe Biden’s talks with a biographer that played a role in the recently completed criminal investigation into Biden’s handling of classified material before he became president.
At a hearing last month, DOJ lawyers handling one Freedom of Information case told U.S. District Judge Dabney Friedrich that it would be highly time-consuming to process other audio files containing Biden’s interviews with writer Mark Zwonitzer. The attorneys said those recordings stretched to 70 hours and reviewing audio for potential classified material is far more difficult than written material.
“We don’t have some transcript that’s been created by the special counsel that we can attest to its accuracy,” Justice Department lawyer Cameron Silverberg told Friedrich at the June 18 hearing on a suit brought by the conservative Heritage Foundation.
However, Silverberg said in a court filing Monday night that the department “in the past few days” confirmed that Hur’s office had transcripts made of a portion of Biden’s discussions with Zwonitzer, which occurred as Biden worked with him on memoirs published in 2007 and 2017. Prosecutors determined that some of those conversations contained classified information, although they were barred by Justice Department policy from pursuing charges against a sitting president and said they would not have done so in any event because of the imprecision of Biden’s memory and other factors.
“In the past few days…the Department located six electronic files, consisting of a total of 117 pages, that appeared to be verbatim transcripts of a small subset of the Biden-Zwonitzer audio recordings created for the SCO by a court-reporting service,” Silverberg wrote in the new filing.

Biden Steps Down – Kamala for President! Hay?
We have not seen an “open” convention since 1968, some 56 years ago. A virtual vote would lock in a new nominee in early August, whereas the other option would be an “open” convention when no candidate arrives with a clear majority of delegates. In this case, the event turns into a mini-primary in which contenders scramble to persuade delegates to vote for them. This can be chaotic; parties battle each other for the nomination—e.g., Hillary, Harris, and Newsom.
However, the reason Biden had to step down is that some states have August deadlines to get on the ballot for the general election.
Since Biden is the primary winner, given that nobody else is allowed to challenge him, and since he is leaving the race, all his delegates are now free agents. They get to choose a candidate independently without voter input – so much for defending democracy.
There are Pledged Delegates who are committed to supporting the candidate state voters chose. However, the Democrats have their “good conscience” clause baked into their party rules that really nullify that commitment.
That’s because of a section in the DNC rules referred to as the “good conscience” clause.
Rule 13(J) reads as follows: “Delegates elected to the national convention pledged to a presidential candidate shall in all good conscience reflect the sentiments of those who elected them.”
This rule means that the delegates are really free to vote for whoever they want –
If the party goes ahead with a long-planned that would be a virtual vote, it could officially lock in the nominee before the convention starts on August 19th, and the contest would be over. However, in this case, a virtual vote is not a typical part of the process, and it might cause even more chaos, especially among large donors. It was primarily set up to confirm Biden as the nominee before Ohio’s ballot deadline. But that seems to be out the window now. This would also reduce the time for the party to coalesce around a new nominee when there are likely to be factional differences.
It is possible that the Democratic elite could generally agree on a candidate before the convention. In that case, the convention might technically be considered open, but the proceedings could still become chaotic with disagreements. No doubt, some Democratic leaders are arguing behind the curtain that they need to settle the question quickly to begin the campaign against Trump ASAP.
Interestingly, if there is no consensus before the delegates arrive in Chicago, the Democrats would have their first open and contested convention since 1968 when Humphrey and Muskie faced off also in Chicago – Deja Vu. There was real chaos. The 1968 Democratic National Convention was held August 26–29th, also in Chicago (1968.652).

In a lengthy statement published on Medium, Obama praised Biden and noted that Biden had dropped out because of his “love” for the country.
Obama stated, “I know Joe has never backed down from a fight. For him to look at the political landscape and decide that he should pass the torch to a new nominee is surely one of the toughest in his life.”

A Hillary Clinton-Barack Obama ticket to replace Joe Biden? Is it even possible?
The next obvious question is this: Does the Constitution allow Obama’s selection as a vice presidential running mate, given ambiguous language in the 12th and 22nd amendments?
The 12th Amendment states that no one “ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice President of the United States.” The 22nd Amendment — the “not Franklin Delano Roosevelt again” amendment — states that “no person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.”
The operative word here might be “elected.” If Obama were selected as Clinton’s running mate, and she had to leave office for any reason, then Obama would succeed her. At least one constitutional expert is on record saying there is nothing to prevent such a scenario.
But why would Obama, who has endorsed Biden, ever entertain such a possibility? I can think of two reasons. One, he would be seen among liberal, Never Trumpers as the one who stepped up to save the nation. Two, there is no heavy lifting involved. Obama could move into the vice presidential residence at the Naval Observatory, considered some of the most beautiful, secure grounds in all of Washington, and do as much or as little work as he wanted. His only real task would be during the campaign, to push Hillary Clinton over the victory line.
Some of the smart money may be placed on Joe Biden not becoming the Democrats’ nominee after all. And, at least in a few minds, it may be time for plans “C” and “O,” Democrats.

Voter ID ballot initiative signatures validated in Nevada
Those voting by mail would be required to provide the last four digits of their state-issued driver’s license or social security number. Signatures for a Nevada ballot initiative on voter ID have been validated.
185,573 people signed a petition from Repair The Vote PAC to get Voter ID on the ballot this November.
As previously reported by The Center Square, the required number is 102,362, with an equal number of signatures coming from every congressional district.
In a July 19th email to media, Repair The Vote PAC Chairman David Gibbs said his organization is “elated” to have met another milestone.
“The validation of 185,573 signatures underscores the strong support from citizens across the Silver State who are committed to protecting the sanctity of our voting system,” said Gibbs. “We are one step closer to enacting this vital reform.”
The initiative wants Nevadans to present photo ID when voting in person at polling places. Those voting by mail would be required to provide the last four digits of their state-issued driver’s license or social security number.
Currently, thirty-five states require voters to show identification to vote at the polls. However, only twenty-four of those require photo identification. Idaho, Utah, and Arizona fall into one of those categories. California and Oregon do not require voter ID.

Luxury Electric Vehicle Maker Becomes Latest In Industry To Announce Huge Layoffs
Electric vehicle (EV) maker Lucid Motors announced that the company would be laying off staff in a bid to lower expenses amid a slowdown in the market.
The layoffs will affect 6% of its workforce, equating to around 400 employees, and will trim from all employee levels, including leadership and mid-level management, according to a filing submitted Friday with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Lucid is one of several EV makers to announce layoffs in recent months as consumers decline to adopt the product at the rate expected.
The company estimates that it will have to pay out between $21 million and $25 million in severance pay and benefits in connection with the layoffs, according to the filing. The planned terminations are expected to be done by the end of the third quarter.

Garland’s Ultimate Test Of Principle: Will DOJ Send The Hunter Biden Perjury Allegations To A Grand Jury?
Attorney General Merrick Garland has long maintained that he is a completely apolitical figure who only follows the law. Critics have challenged that claim on key cases, including those related to Hunter Biden. However, Garland may now face one of the clearest tests of his claim in his tenure. The House committees have issued a public report alleging three different instances where Hunter Biden allegedly committed perjury. The question is now what Garland is prepared to do about it.
When Hunter testified, I wrote columns suggesting that he might take the Fifth Amendment to remain silent because the risk was too great that he might lie or mislead investigators in his answers. With months of preparation, he decided to run the gauntlet and now appears to have exposed himself to the possibility of additional criminal charges.
Hunter Biden has still not responded to the specific allegations, but on their face they appear strong. Notably, the Justice Department spent considerable time and money to pursue false statements against figures like Michael Flynn over just one statement describing a meeting with Russian diplomats. These are instances where Hunter was under oath, prepared for months, and had counsel present.
One of the instances concerns the controversial WhatsApp message where Hunter not only threatened a Chinese businessman to send him massive amounts of money but said that his father was sitting next to him at the time. Millions were later sent to the Bidens. The infamous WhatsApp message stated in part:
“I am sitting here with my father and we would like to understand why the commitment made has not been fulfilled. Tell the director that I would like to resolve this now before it gets out of hand, and now means tonight. And, Z, if I get a call or text from anyone involved in this other than you, Zhang, or the chairman, I will make certain that between the man sitting next to me and every person he knows and my ability to forever hold a grudge that you will regret not following my direction. I am sitting here waiting for the call with my father.”
The response of Hunter to questions about the message was curious and evasive. Hunter said that he had only two things to say about that message. He denied that his father was sitting next to him despite saying that he had no memory of sending the message. Second, and most importantly, he stated “the Zhao that this is sent to is not the Zhao connected to CEFC” who “had no understanding or even remotely knew what the hell I was even Goddamn talking about.”
The Committee staff maintains that Biden’s WhatsApp account show that he only ever communicated with one Zhao – Raymond Zhao – and that he most certainly did not what he was “talking about.”

Now Garland faces an unavoidable choice in treating this referral as he did Trump cases (in sending this to a grand jury) or scuttling alleged perjury made by the son of the President before Congress.
It is far less challenging legally than it is politically for Merrick Garland.
If the rule of law still governs at the Justice Department, Hunter Biden could be facing a third front in his ongoing legal struggles.

Russia Passes Decree To Allow Seizure Of US Assets
A new decree will give Russian companies, organisations & individuals hit by sanctions the right to apply for compensation from the Russian government. The compensation would come in the form of US-owned assets (real estate, companies, bank accounts or shares) based in Russia.
The West froze around $300 billion of Russian financial assets, mostly its central bank reserves, after Moscow ordered troops into Ukraine in February 2022.
And the US Congress last month passed a bill that would allow President Joe Biden to use frozen Russian assets in the United States for a special fund to support Ukraine.
The Russian decree will give Russian companies, organisations and individuals that have been hit by sanctions the right to apply for compensation from the Russian government.
The compensation would come in the form of US-owned assets — such as real estate, companies, bank accounts or shares — based in Russia.
Many Western companies have left Russia since it launched its offensive on Ukraine.

Pat Ryder told reporters Tuesday that more than 569 metric tons of aid had been delivered to Gaza via the pier, called a Joint Logistics Over-the-Shore operation, or JLOTS, but that it did not appear that any of it had actually been delivered to the starving residents of Gaza.

The victim need not suffer ‘actual harm’.
An employee only must show “some harm” under the terms of their employment, AND that harm need not be “material,” “substantial” or “serious.” The decision makes it much easier for workers to sue over discriminatory practices. This is a big win for equality!

A never-before-seen memo has exposed a secret Obama administration program that blows up the pretext behind the Biden regime’s sinister raid on President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home back in 2022.

They released a Department of Defense (DOD) memo on Thursday from the White House unveiling that the DOD has been “operating and maintaining the information resources and information systems provided to the President, Vice President, and Executive Office of the President (EOP).”
The White House created and very likely maintains information technology that enforces Obama’s executive order so presidents can store their records on DOD servers without them getting exposed.
According to America First Legal, the Biden regime has preserved and retained all EOP records on its servers. Thus, it almost certainly has most, if not all, of Trump’s classified documents.

Biden redacts justification for altering definition of ‘recession’
The Biden administration redefined the word “recession.” The move made a bizarre kind of sense coming from a bureaucracy that has redefined what it means to be a woman.

The Heritage Foundation, decided to get to the bottom of this whole redefining-a-recession nonsense. Heritage’s Oversight Project filed a Freedom of Information Act request in July 2023, asking the Treasury Department for internal communications regarding recessions.
Treasury asked Heritage to narrow the parameters of the request. It did so. Treasury refused to hand over the documents by the time required by law. Heritage sued. Late last month, Treasury handed over some documents.
The catch? Most of the conversations in those documents have been redacted.
Many pages simply feature a large black box redacting the entire page.
One email shows Treasury staff discussing a quote from the International Monetary Fund stating that a “technical recession” consists of two quarters of economic decline.

So, Heritage plans to sue again.
“The Oversight Project sued the Treasury Department to seek answers on why the Biden administration gaslit the American people into changing the definition of recession,” Kyle Brosnan, chief counsel at the Oversight Project, told The Daily Signal. “We have received multiple document productions from our lawsuit showing that there were a lot of communications about this change, but excessive redactions have hampered our ability to determine the truth. We intend to challenge these redactions as we progress in the case.”
The Biden administration’s apparent attempt, yet again, to hide the substance of internal discussions about the definition of a recession raises more questions than answers.

Putin orders American Express bank to liquidate
Russian President Vladimir Putin has granted American Express bank the right to “voluntary liquidate” its business in Russia, according to a document published on the portal of legal acts on Wednesday.
The order did not specify how and when exactly the liquidation process will take place.
According to the document, the decision comes in accordance with a decree signed by Putin in August 2022 concerning special economic measures in the financial and energy sectors in connection with the “unfriendly actions of some foreign states and international organizations.”

Lawmakers move to automate Selective Service registration for all men
A new plan from House lawmakers would automatically register men for a potential military draft when they hit age 18, avoiding potential legal consequences connected to failing to file the paperwork at the proper time.
Language included in the House Armed Services Committee’s draft of the annual defense authorization bill would mandate the automatic registration of all males between ages 18 and 26 living in America in the Selective Service System, the federal database used for a military draft in case of a national emergency.
The system hasn’t been used for that purpose for 52 years, but men who fail to register can face a host of legal consequences, including forfeiture of eligibility for federal programs and possible jail time.
But the number of individuals who have skipped registering has increased in recent years, in large part because registration options were removed from the federal student loan process two years ago. That had accounted for nearly a quarter of all registrations in prior years.

CYBERCOM, DARPA pen agreement to speed up advanced cyberwarfare research
U.S. Cyber Command and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency signed a binding memorandum this month that carves out pathways needed to expedite research and development of advanced cyberware technologies in the Department of Defense.
The agreement, announced by the two Pentagon agencies this week, establishes budgets, roles and governance structures needed to swiftly move cyber technologies “from the laboratory to the cyber battlefield,” they said.
The move centers DARPA — the research giant focused on advanced technology for U.S. military capabilities — as the frontrunner entity that provides projects to be loaded into CYBERCOM’s software suite. The memorandum follows the 2022 establishment of Constellation, the agreement’s cornerstone pilot program focused on transmitting advanced hacking capabilities to American cyberspace combatants.
Under the agreement, R&D programs would be chosen by DARPA and executed by the Orion Consortium, a joint group that includes DARPA contributors and CYBERCOM engineers.

Existing Home Sales Fall Amid Skyrocketing Prices and High Mortgage Rates
Sales of previously owned homes in the United States fell sharply in April, as prospective buyers grappled with a prohibitively expensive housing market.
The National Association of Realtors (NAR) reported on Wednesday that home sales fell by 1.9 percent in April, reaching an annualized rate of 4.14 million units. This figure, which represents the number of homes that would be sold over a year if the monthly sales pace remained consistent, fell short of Wall Street’s expectations. Analysts had predicted a slightly higher rate of 4.21 million units.

Hamas celebrated as Ireland, Norway, and Spain announced that they would recognize a Palestinian state in the wake of the October 7 terror attacks against Israel, prompting Israel to recall its ambassadors from all three.
Israeli foreign minister Israel Katz announced that Israel would be recalling its ambassadors from all three countries for consultations, and summoned the ambassadors of all three companies for reprimands — a severe diplomatic step.

There is no indication what the structure of a Palestinian state would be — whether it would be a democracy, or a radical Islamist theocracy. Nor is there any guarantee that it would not immediately align with the Iranian regime.

Russia Blasts As ‘Fake News’ Fresh Pentagon Charge Of Anti-Satellite Weapon In Space
US Department of Defense spokesman Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder on Tuesday in a briefing said that on May 16 Russia “launched a satellite into low Earth orbit that we that we assess is likely a counter space weapon presumably capable of attacking other satellites in low Earth orbit.” This was in apparent reference to the launch of a Soyuz rocket from the Plesetsk launch site, which Russia has previously affirmed was carrying a spacecraft of some type.

Peskov’s response Wednesday was as follows: “I cannot comment on this in any way. Here, we act absolutely in accordance with international law, we do not violate anything.”
Importantly, he said that Russia has repeated reached out in hopes of advancing talks with the US to prohibit certain types of weapons in space, but this was rejected. “We have repeatedly advocated for a ban on the launch of any weapons into space. Unfortunately, these initiatives of ours were rejected, including by the United States,” Peskov said.
Meanwhile President Putin himself has tried to bat down the allegations as well, saying recently, “Our position is clear and transparent: We have always been categorically against, and are now against, the placement of nuclear weapons in space.”

Estonian PM reveals some countries are already training military in Ukraine
Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas has stated that some countries have already sent their instructors to Ukraine to train Ukrainian military personnel.
Kallas noted that NATO allies should not fear that sending troops to Ukraine to train its soldiers could draw the Alliance into a war with Russia.
She mentioned that “there are countries who are training soldiers on the ground already,” and they are doing so at their own risk.
She said that if Russian forces were to attack NATO country instructors in Ukraine, this would not automatically trigger Article 5 on mutual defence.
“I can’t possibly imagine that if somebody is hurt there, then those who have sent their people will say ‘it’s Article 5. Let’s . . . bomb Russia.’ It is not how it works. It’s not automatic. So these fears are not well-founded,” Kallas said.

The FBI is a U.S. version of the Russian “State Police”; and the FBI is deployed -almost exclusively- to attack domestic enemies of those who control government, while they protect the interests of the U.S. Fourth Branch of Government. That is the clear and accurate domestic prism to contextualize their perceived mission: “domestic violent extremists pose the greatest threat” to their objective.
Put another way, “We The People”, who fight against government abuse and usurpation, are the FBI’s actual and literal enemy.
Let me be very clear with another brutally obvious example. Antifa could not exist as an organization, capable to organize and carry out violent attacks against their targets, without the full support of the FBI. If the FBI wanted to arrest members of Antifa, who are actually conducting violence, they could do it easily – with little effort.
It is the absence of any action, by the FBI toward Antifa, that tells us the FBI is enabling that violent extremist behavior to continue. Once you accept that transparent point of truth, then you realize the FBI definition of domestic violent extremism is something else entirely.

“buried” in Newscum’s new budget proposal are $18 billion in “temporary tax hikes” for the California businesses still hanging on—over the past few years, a significant portion of the state’s businesses were forced into insolvency by government “pandemic” mandates, taxes, and crime, while many others fled the state altogether—but by “temporary” we know that actually means… permanent. Newsom unveiled his budget proposal on May 10, and the tax policy details the following week. The proposal would, for the next three years, bar businesses earning $1 million or more from deducting operating losses from their taxes while also limiting business tax credits. The provisions are projected to cost California businesses about $18 billion through 2027, although they wouldn’t take effect if tax collections beat expectations. Such a scenario appears unlikely, however, given that California’s tax revenues are massively down thanks to a stagnating economy and exodus of both high-earning residents and businesses.
Now, while Newsom was making promises not to increase taxes (California already has the highest state income tax in the nation), he was spending billions—so it should have been known at the outset that his promises were empty, because from where else would the cash to cover the nearly seventy-billion-dollar deficit come?

New report: California ranks ‘dead last’ in ‘opportunity’
According to Kenneth Schrupp at The Center Square, a new analysis from the U.S. News and World Report agency found that California ranked “dead last” among the 50 states when it comes time to “opportunity.”
What could have possibly indicated that California wasn’t the friendliest location for anyone wanting to build a life of prosperity and freedom?
Was it the state’s nearly seventy-billion-dollar deficit?
Was it the mass exodus that has seen hundreds of thousands of people flee the state for friendlier locales, a trend which has resulted in a net negative for legal population and hit the tax-happy state where it hurts, i.e. fleeing revenues?
Was it the flight of more than 350 big businesses, a handful of which were Fortune 1,000 companies like Tesla, HP Enterprise, and Oracle? F
Was it the influx of millions of third world migrants who came for welfare?
Was it the news that the government would be handing out $1,200 per month to transvestites/transsexuals simply because of their mental illness? (A person could stay on that program for up to 18 months, which would yield a $21,600 handout.)
Was it the news that the government would be handing out “free” beer and vodka shots to homeless drunks at the expense of the taxpayer?
Was it the fact that California has the highest state income tax rate in the U.S., coming in at more than 13%?
Was it the price of gas which is typically double the national average? (In 2022 in Mendocino, California, gas hit $9.91 per gallon.) Was it the state’s gasoline tax of “57.9 cents” per gallon, a tax that’s also recognized as “highest in the nation”?
Was it the state’s war on reliable and affordable energy, the very thing that makes the world move?
Was it the state’s war on the farmers providing the food?

California housing is so expensive that the typical home requires a household income of $224,000, or three times the median household income to afford. Gasoline in California is more expensive than even Hawaii’s, which must be imported across the Pacific Ocean, and proposed taxes could raise gas prices an additional $1.11 per gallon by 2026. The state’s energy is more expensive than any state’s other than Hawaii, further increasing the cost of living.
America’s largest water district, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, which supplies water for 19 million Americans, is raising rates 40% due to revenue losses from high levels of water conservation, putting additional pressure on Californians’ budgets.

World Economic Forum founder Klaus Schwab steps back from executive post
World Economic Forum founder and executive chairman Klaus Schwab will be stepping back from his role running the global gathering since he founded it in 1971.
Schwab announced his intentions in an email to staff on Tuesday that was shared with Semafor by a person connected to the organization.
He will be stepping down as executive chairman and transitioning to a role as non-executive chairman, he said, adding the change in his role is pending approval by the Swiss government but should be finalized ahead of the WEF’s annual meeting in 2025.
Schwab has not named his successor, but said that over the last year, the group’s executive board, “under the leadership of President Børge Brende, has taken full executive responsibility.”
The Forum operates much like a family business, with Schwab’s children appointed to high-ranking positions and his wife Hilde heading the organization’s foundation and awards ceremonies in Davos.
In recent years, the Forum has shifted its focus towards the center, and away from liberal politics, Semafor previously reported.

The Environmental Protection Agency has issued an enforcement alert urging water systems to take immediate action to protect the nation’s drinking water from foreign cyberattacks.
Cyberattacks against water utilities across the country are becoming more frequent and severe, the agency announced Monday.
EPA officials warn approximately 70 percent of utilities inspected by federal officials over the last year violated standards designed to mitigate cyber threats.
As nation-states including Russia and Iran have impacted water systems of all sizes, even smaller water systems are being urged to improve protection against cyber attacks.
Water systems typically rely heavily on computer software to operate treatment plants and distribution systems.

Biden Says Inflation Is Moving In The Right Direction. The Numbers Paint A Different Picture
President Joe Biden has repeatedly touted that the pace of inflation is slowly trending in the right direction, but recent data has led experts to cast doubt on that claim.
“There’s nothing in the data that says we are trending towards 2%,” E.J. Antoni, a research fellow at the Heritage Foundation’s Grover M. Hermann Center for the Federal Budget, told the DCNF. “The people saying that are engaged in little more than wishful thinking and political punditry, not empirical analysis. To have an annual inflation rate of 2%, you need to have monthly inflation rates between 0.1% and 0.2%. Instead, we have consistently averaged higher than that since June 2022. Julian Assange wins High Court bid to bring appeal against extradition to US
Julian Assange will be allowed to appeal against his extradition to the United States.
Two judges responded today to US assurances that Mr Assange will not face the death penalty – and can rely on the First Amendment right to free speech if he faced a trial for spying.
He added most of the promises were “blatantly inadequate” – but they had accepted the promise about the death penalty.
In written submissions, the barrister said while the assurance over the death penalty was “an unambiguous executive promise”, the other assurance does not give “any reliable promise as to future action”.
The barrister added: “What needs to be conclusively removed is the risk that he will be prevented from relying on the first amendment on grounds of nationality.”

Biden Reversed Trump Policy Against ICC, Leaving the U.S. and Israel Vulnerable
The ICC warrants came after the Biden administration offered only meek public opposition to chief ICC Karim Kahn. The Biden administration was even suspected, by Israelis, of using the looming ICC warrants as a way of pressuring Israel to comply with U.S. policies, such as not pursuing Hamas terrorists in the town of Rafah.
What has transpired arguably would not have happened had Biden not reversed President Donald Trump’s policies against the ICC.
In June 2020, Trump issued Executive Order 13928, slapping sanctions on ICC officials who attempted to investigate U.S. soldiers — and soldiers of allied countries — for military actions against terrorists.
The order, noting that the U.S. is not a party to the Rome Statute establishing the ICC, declared:
The order froze the assets of any ICC official “directly engaged in any effort by the ICC to investigate, arrest, detain, or prosecute any United States personnel without the consent of the United States … or prosecute any personnel of a country that is an ally of the United States without the consent of that country’s government.” It also denied entry visas to ICC officials engaged in such investigations.
Israel, like the U.S., is not a party to the Rome Statute; Trump’s order therefore protected Israel as well.
President Biden revoked Trump’s order shortly after taking office. Biden and the Democrats, proclaiming that “America is back,” sought to cultivate international goodwill by giving the ICC credibility and power.

The saga began in May 2020, when Smith reopened Atilis Gym, challenging the Murphy administration’s mandates, which he and his supporters argue are unconstitutional and detrimental to small businesses.
The confrontation escalated in July 2020 when police officers forcefully arrested Smith after he continually violated the state’s shutdown orders.
The state’s aggressive response did not end with the arrest. In a controversial move, Governor Murphy and his administration seized $165,000 from the gym’s accounts—funds that Smith claims were amassed through donations and apparel sales to support the gym’s legal battles. This act was a punitive strike meant to cripple the gym financially and serve as a stern warning to others who might consider similar defiance.

Trump Trial Enters Final Phase; Judge Merchan to Issue Jury Instructions
Another pivotal moment in the trial could come when Judge Juan Merchan issues instructions to the jury on how to consider the charges — which could support the prosecution.

Judge Aileen Cannon called out Special Counsel Jack Smith for his dirty tricks in Trump’s classified documents case in a rare Sunday filing.
Jack Smith has repeatedly warned of a ‘significant, immediate’ threat to the government witnesses if their names were unredacted.
The Special Counsel has been fighting to keep the names of government witnesses a secret. He also opposed the unsealing of discovery material because one document confirms the existence of another FBI investigation.
In a five-page order, Judge Cannon, a Trump appointee, said that she is “disappointed” that Jack Smith has demanded redactions for “witness safety” when it benefits him, but ignored those concerns at other times.
Judge Cannon said that “nowhere in that explanation is there any basis to conclude that the Special Counsel could not have defended the integrity of his Office while simultaneously preserving the witness-safety and concerns he has repeatedly told the Court, and maintains to this day, are of serious consequence, and which the Court has endeavored with diligence to accommodate in its multiple Orders on sealing/redaction. The Court is disappointed in these developments.”Judge Aileen Cannon
Cannon “granted in part and denied in part” Jack Smith’s motions requesting redactions in Trump’s defense filings.
“Finally, to the extent the Special Counsel asserts a need for continued secrecy over the subject material under Rule 6(e) of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure, the Court accepts that rationale despite concerns about the Special Counsel’s use of Rule 6(e) as a basis for continued secrecy, and authorizes the requested sealing/redactions subject to potential further review,” the Judge wrote.
