Time feels stable and predictable, but what if it isn’t? In this episode, we explore time slips: strange, real-world experiences where people suddenly find themselves in another era before snapping back to the present.

These are not dreams or sci-fi time travel stories. Time slips are vivid, waking moments reported by ordinary people, including historians, pilots, drivers, and skeptics. Near Death Experiences (NDEs)

There are moments in hospitals when the heart stops, the monitors fall silent, and a time of death is called. Clinically, that is death. And yet, some people cross that line and come back with vivid, structured memories of what happened while their bodies were unresponsive.

In this episode, we explore Near-Death Experiences, or NDEs, reported by people who were clinically dead during cardiac arrest, severe trauma, or medical emergencies and later revived. These accounts come from adults and children, believers and skeptics alike, and appear across cultures with striking similarities.

We also examine well-documented medical cases that challenge simple neurological explanations, along with scientific theories involving brain chemistry, oxygen deprivation, and consciousness. While science can explain pieces of the experience, it struggles to account for verifiable perception during periods when the brain should not be capable of memory or awareness.

Near-death experiences do not offer easy answers, but they raise profound questions about consciousness, identity, and what may exist at the edge of life. Whether biological, psychological, or something beyond our current understanding, these stories suggest that crossing death’s threshold is not always the end.

As life draws to a close, many people report a quiet but profound shift. Not an ending, but a soft loosening. Across cultures, belief systems, and generations, those nearing death describe remarkably similar experiences in the hours or days before they pass.

In this episode, we explore Before Death Experiences, a collection of real accounts from hospice nurses, doctors, family members, and dying patients themselves. These stories often include calm visions of deceased loved ones, conversations with people who have been gone for years, and a sense of preparation or readiness. Unlike typical hallucinations, these experiences are described as lucid, peaceful, and purposeful.

Some individuals see places such as gardens, doorways, or train platforms. Others experience terminal lucidity, briefly regaining clarity or consciousness after long periods of illness or cognitive decline. In rare cases, family members or caregivers report witnessing parts of these moments as well.

Science offers possible explanations involving brain chemistry and oxygen levels, but many details remain unexplained. The consistency of these experiences and their emotional clarity leave lasting impressions on everyone involved.

Whether neurological or something more, Before Death Experiences challenge how we think about dying. Rather than fear or confusion, many accounts suggest comfort, connection, and the feeling that no one goes alone.

High in the Alpine regions of Austria, Bavaria, Switzerland, and northern Italy, an ancient figure is said to walk during the Twelve Nights between Christmas and Epiphany. Known as Frau Perchta, Berchta, or the White Lady, she is a being of deep duality. She blesses the obedient and punishes those who break sacred winter rules.

Frau Perchta predates Christianity and is believed to originate as a powerful pagan winter goddess. Her name comes from an Old High German word meaning bright or shining. In early folklore, she was a guardian of women’s work, especially spinning and weaving, and a protector of children, animals, and vulnerable souls. Homes that honored her through hard work and order were rewarded. Those that did not faced terrifying consequences.

Despite centuries of church condemnation and attempts to recast her as a demonic witch, Frau Perchta never disappeared. Today, she lives on through Perchtenlauf festivals, where masked figures parade through villages. These include Schönperchten, representing blessings, and Schiachperchten, terrifying figures meant to drive away evil. Many locals still warn that these masks are more than costumes.

Modern encounters continue to surface, from hikers reporting white-clad figures in snowbound forests to unexplained bells, footsteps, and disturbances during the Twelve Nights. Whether dismissed as folklore, weather, or cultural memory, witnesses insist something ancient is still present.

Frau Perchta does not haunt ruins or distant mountains alone. She visits homes. And as winter deepens and the year turns, the old warnings remain. Finish your work. Be honest. Respect the quiet of the season. Because if the stories are true, she is still watching.

In this episode, we unwrap one of Europe’s most unsettling holiday traditions: Krampus, the horned Christmas demon of the Alps. Equal parts folklore, fear tactic, and living cultural ritual, Krampus is the terrifying counterpart to Saint Nicholas.

Originating in the Alpine regions of Austria, Bavaria, and neighboring areas, Krampus is a half-goat, half-demon figure who appears on December 5th, Krampusnacht, to punish misbehaving children. While Saint Nicholas rewards the good, Krampus rattles chains, carries birch rods, and in older legends abducts naughty kids in his sack. The name likely comes from the German Krampen, meaning claw.

Folklorists trace Krampus back to pre-Christian winter spirits like the Perchten, wild masked figures tied to solstice rituals and mountain folklore. Over time, these pagan traditions fused with Christian customs, pairing Krampus with Saint Nicholas despite repeated attempts by the Church and even 20th-century governments to ban him.

Today, Krampus lives on through Krampuslauf events, where costumed participants in carved wooden masks, animal pelts, horns, and bells parade through towns in controlled chaos. These runs blend folklore, performance, and community release, though modern debates focus on safety and consent.

Krampus reminds us that Christmas was not always soft lights and sweet treats. It once carried the weight of winter, fear, and survival. And somewhere between tradition and terror, the bells still ring.

In this special holiday episode of the You Two Scare Me Podcast, we each bring a story from the icy north: Iceland’s terrifying Christmas witch, Grýla, and Scandinavia’s mysterious farm guardian, the tomte.

Grýla: Iceland’s Christmas Witch
 Grýla appears in medieval Icelandic sagas as a mountain-dwelling troll woman who later becomes the fearsome figure of Christmas. She hunts misbehaving children, scoops them into her sack, and cooks them into stew. She lives with her lazy husband, her thirteen mischievous Yule Lad sons, and the Yule Cat who eats anyone who didn’t receive new clothes for Christmas. Some believe Grýla represents the dangers of Iceland’s brutal winters, and hikers still report eerie sightings near her legendary home in the lava fields.

The Tomte: Scandinavia’s Watchful Farm Spirit
The tomte is a small, bearded guardian spirit tied to the land and the farm. He protects households, watches over animals, and expects respect in return. If offended, he becomes mischievous or destructive. Families traditionally left him a bowl of Christmas Eve porridge with butter on top, or else risk his wrath. Over time he blended with Christmas traditions and became a gift-bringer, though his older, unpredictable nature still lingers beneath the surface.

Together, these legends show how Nordic cultures used folklore to explain long nights, harsh winters, and the need to stay in the good graces of whatever spirits might be listening.

Tonight we are traveling to Korea to explore two powerful parts of its folklore: the wandering ghosts known as gwishin and the legendary creatures that haunt its mountains, rivers, and villages. These stories come from a culture shaped by Confucian values, ancestor rites, and a deep respect for the spirit world.

We start with the 귀신 gwishin, spirits who could not move on because something about their death was unfinished. The 처녀귀신 cheonyeo gwishin, or virgin ghost, appears as a woman in white who died unmarried and has no place in her family’s ancestral rites. The 물귀신 mul gwishin, the spirit of someone who drowned, is said to pull the living underwater to take their place. The eerie 달걀귀신 dalgyal gwishin, or egg ghost, has no face or features at all and is considered an omen of death. These ghosts represent fear, loneliness, and the consequences of dying without proper rituals or closure.

Then we turn to Korea’s cryptids and shapeshifters. The 구미호 gumiho, the nine tailed fox, can transform into a beautiful woman who steals hearts or livers. The 이무기 imugi, a giant serpent, is a proto dragon that strives for transformation and power. The 불가사리 bulgasari, the Iron Eater, consumes metal and symbolizes force that cannot be stopped. The 해태 haetae, a lion like guardian creature, protects against injustice and disaster and is still honored in modern Seoul.

These beings are not just fantasy. They reflect Korea’s landscapes, values, and fears. They connect to its rivers, storms, mountains, and spiritual traditions. The gwishin speak to grief and unfinished lives, while the cryptids represent warnings, protection, and the mysteries of nature.

Even now, these stories continue to appear in dramas, folklore festivals, and online accounts. Whether it is a faceless spirit on a dark road or a fox with nine tails glimpsed in the snow, Korean folklore reminds us that the unseen world never feels very far away.

Tonight we’re heading into the mountains and valleys of Pennsylvania to explore a legend that refuses to stay grounded. For more than a century, people have reported seeing enormous birds gliding over forests, farms, and small towns. We’re talking wingspans of fifteen to twenty feet, silent flight, and shadows so big they momentarily blot out the sun. These sightings all point to one creature: the Thunderbird.

The Thunderbird has ancient origins in Native American traditions across North America. In many cultures it was a powerful sky spirit connected to storms and protection. When settlers later brought their own tales of giant birds, the old and new stories blended, setting the stage for the sightings that continue today.

Experts often suggest misidentification. Others believe the stories reflect our fascination with ancient creatures and sky spirits. But for witnesses who swear they saw something massive soaring overhead, the mystery remains very real.

Pennsylvania is full of deep hollows, ridges, and forests where something large could hide. Whether these sightings are giant birds, prehistoric survivors, or echoes of sacred Thunderbird lore, one thing is clear: people are still seeing something strange in the skies.

And when thunder rolls across the Pennsylvania hills, plenty of folks still look up — just in case.

College life in Texas isn’t all football games and late-night study sessions—some campuses have spirits that never quite graduated. 

At Texas State University in San Marcos, Old Main looms above the river like a gothic sentinel. Built in 1903, it’s said to be haunted by a young woman who leapt—or was pushed—from its balcony more than a century ago. “Scary Sterry” Hall adds to the legend with tales of doors opening on their own and ghostly visitors wandering its echoing corridors.

In College Station, Texas A&M University has its own ghost stories rooted in Aggie tradition. There's the spirit of a meat-processing foreman who died in a gruesome accident in the 1950s,  a mysterious woman in white at Francis Hall and phantom nips from Reveille, the university’s beloved canine mascot.

At Texas A&M University–Commerce, Talbot Hall stands out as both historic and haunted. Once the campus library, it’s now home to flickering lights, footsteps in empty hallways, and the laughter of a boy said to have fallen through the skylight in the 1930s.

At University of Texas at Austin, the Littlefield House tells a more tragic story. Built in 1894, it was home to George and Alice Littlefield, major donors to the university. Today, staff report phantom piano music drifting through the halls and soft crying from the upper floor.

Finally, at St. Edward’s University, faith and fear coexist. The campus has survived fires, tornadoes, and more than a few ghost stories. In the Mary Moody Northen Theatre, students speak of a female spirit haunting the catwalk above the stage, while the main building is home to the ghost of a brother who fell to his death trying to catch a painting from an open window. 

From gothic towers to glowing catwalks, Texas’s college campuses prove that higher education doesn’t always stop at the grave. The halls of learning echo with laughter, heartbreak, and a few too many footsteps from the other side.
