Around 1,600 new HDB flats will be built on a 10ha site in Farrer Park, and integrated with sports and recreational facilities including a new sports centre. The Build-To-Order projects will be launched for sale within three years.
In a nod to the area's rich sporting heritage, about 20 per cent of the site will be set aside as open spaces for sports and recreational uses, including a 1.2ha central green space comprising a field and a park.
In The Straits Times' The Big Story, Multimedia Journalist Hairianto Dirman spoke to Sports correspondent Sazali Abdul Aziz about the reactions from the sporting community to these plans.

A week after the Monetary Authority of Singapore enacted a one-two punch in raising the slope of the SGD's NEER rate and its midpoint, how effective will this be in helping head off inflationary pressures in Singapore? And will potential strength be blunted if other central banks also tighten their monetary policy settings? Jeff Ng, Senior Currency Analyst at MUFG, joined us on Forex Fridays to talk about how this is shaping their outlook on the Singapore Dollar, and also what he makes of recent weakness facing the Chinese Yuan and the Japanese Yen.
