You’re The Leader, Now What? With Dr. Richard Winters

Richard Winters, M.D. is an emergency physician at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He is the director of leadership development for the Mayo Clinic Care Network, a member network of over 47 national and international healthcare systems. Dr. Winters develops and delivers leadership programs and provides executive coaching for leaders around the world. 

Dr. Winters authored the Wall Street Journal bestselling book You’re the Leader. Now What?: Leadership Lessons from Mayo Clinic, which was published by Mayo Clinic Press on September 6, 2022. And he serves as core faculty for the Accelerate Leadership Program at Mayo Clinic.

Dr. Winters is a consultant in Emergency Medicine and finance chair for the Midwest Department of Emergency Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He serves on the Rochester Emergency Department Executive Committee and the Specialty Council for Emergency Medicine.

Prior to returning to Mayo Clinic in March of 2015, Richard served as the President of an 800-physician medical staff, President/CEO of an Independent Practice Association in the Central Valley of California with 450-physician members, as CEO of a Physician Hospital Organization, and as Managing Partner of a democratic emergency medicine partnership.

He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Dallas Executive and Professional Coaching Program and is an International Coaching Federation professional certified coach. Richard completed a Healthcare Management Executive MBA from the University of Texas at Dallas and UT Southwestern Medical Center.  He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Winters attended Mayo Medical School from 1990-1994. He is board certified and residency trained in Emergency Medicine from the University of California, San Francisco at Fresno.
