  • Episode 35: Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder
In this week’s episode, I discuss the importance of giving a man lots of space when you are being courted by him. If you’re familiar with the saying “absence makes the heart grow fonder” than you will understand exactly what this means when you’re done listening to this week’s episode. Many ladies believe my methods for coaching and counseling regarding relationships to be too “old fashioned” and “outdated”. I disagree and I think it’s time we got back to what worked for our grandmother’s and their mothers!
I teach the “feminine power” way and that means that for women, their strength is in their feminine energy! You may have been raised with brothers like I was and understand the male mind. Don’t be mistaken though; you will get farther much faster with men when operating from your feminine energy. There are some things that are hard-wired in men and women, biologically. I teach men and women instead of fighting against it, to embrace and celebrate it!
One of the books I encourage my clients to read through is a classic called “Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus” by Dr. John Gray. In this book, Dr. Gray speaks about how men are like “rubber bands” and that they need to pull away often but will spring back when you give them the time they need to go into their “caves”. He encourages women to avoid chasing them or trying to make them happy but to focus more on what they need to do to make THEMSELVES happy! This book was written in 1998 but the information contained in it is still very relevant! Dr. Gray has also written an update to this information in his newest book, “Beyond Mars and Venus: Relationship Skills For Todays Modern World”. You can get both of them by clicking the link below.

  • Episode 34: “Help! What Am I Doing Wrong”?
In this weeks episode of the podcast, I am answering a question that I had sent in by a listener this week. She is a 31-year-old never married woman who is college educated, has no children, and lives alone in her own condo. She reported that she has a nice car, takes good care of herself, and always goes out dressed to impress. This young lady is a person of faith and attends church every Sunday. She considers herself a “good catch” but stated that she struggles to find “qualified” men to date. She says that she gets attention from men, but it is usually from men who are not as accomplished as her or they simply want sex. Her mother has been hinting about her getting married and having some children and will often talk about this to her sister and her mother. The listener stated that she wants to get married and have a family, sooner rather than later, but she is beginning to think that it will NEVER happen for her. She admits to being frustrated by the apps and online dating and with men in general. This email ended with “Help! What am I doing wrong”? Listen in as this same situation may apply to you.

  • Episode 33: Successful First Date Conversations
In this week’s episode, I give you some great tips on how to have successful first date conversations. I believe that it is most important to find out what your date VALUES rather than what their hobbies and interests are. You want to determine if they are the type of person who would be a good fit for you and the type of relationship you want to have moving forward.
For my female clients, I tell them to assume the role of “employer” and their dates are applicants for the “position” they have open. They should do more listening and should focus more on how their date makes them FEEL. For my male clients, I encourage them to come prepared to exhibit their best qualities and skills. I want everyone to put their best foot forward and make a great first impression. I also want you to be yourself! Have an open mind AND an open heart.
You will need at least three dates to determine if someone is NOT right for you. There are exceptions to this rule; if the person is intoxicated or high, if they are rude to the point of being embarrassing, or if they are violent, angry or abusive in ANY way, then it’s totally ok to walk away and never look back!
I am including a list of questions that can help you to not only get to know what your date values, but it can also help to foster closeness and intimacy between the two of you. This list of questions was compiled by Dr. Arthur Aron as part of his study “The Experimental Generation of Interpersonal Closeness: A Procedure and Some Preliminary Findings”. Aron, an expert in the field of interpersonal relationships and love, developed a technique 20 years ago that apparently dramatically improves two people’s chances of falling in love. He had several people who were strangers come together and ask each other these questions over a period of time and also look into each other’s eyes for 4 minutes. These questions created vulnerability and closeness between the couples within one night. Download the questions here and use them on your next date! You can also read more about the study here:

  • Episode 32: Sex Too Soon?
In this week’s episode, I am talking about sex and what can happen when you engage in sex too soon with a potential partner. I can talk about this subject all day and as you can hear, I am very passionate about it! In today’s “hook up” culture, many of us have been sold the lie that sex isn’t anything more than a pleasurable physical act between two consenting adults. It’s kind of reminiscent of the 60’s and the “free love” movement where people felt like exploring their sexuality with multiple partners was just something you did prior to settling down with just one.
For many in our society, they believe that monogamy isn’t even possible and that we should allow for “open” relationships as a rule. I of course disagree and in this episode, I’ll explain why. If you think that protecting yourself against sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy are the only things you have to be worried about, then think again! I am including a FREE download of my “50 Questions to Ask Before You Have Sex” pdf so click here to get it. For my ladies, remember this quote by my great mentor Dr. Patricia Allen, “There is nothing more expensive than “free” sex”!! • Episode 31: Can A Relationship Survive Cheating?
In this week’s episode, I discuss how a relationship can survive cheating of any kind (emotional or sexual). There are so many factors that determine whether a couple can come back from an infidelity. The most important thing is if that couple WANT to forgive and learn to trust again. It will take BOTH of them to do some real work; preferably with a professional, to come out on the other side stronger and closer than ever before! I have seen many marriages and relationships survive and thrive past infidelity. You have to put your commitment to the relationship before your ego in order to forgive and grow past it. There are many great books written on this topic and I suggest the one below by Dr. Bonnie Eaker-Weil.

  • Episode 30: Why Do People Cheat?
In this week’s episode, I am answering the age-old question “Why Do People Cheat”? I get asked this question quite a bit and it really saddens me that people who go through this just want to understand “why”? There are so many ways in which a partner cheats. They may have sex with another person or they may have an emotional affair with someone of the opposite sex. For some, they see cheating as a way to get an emotional need met. For others, cheating may be tied to an addiction of some kind. Their relationship may be perfectly fine and their partner is wonderful. They still seek the thrill or the variety of sex with another partner.
I talk about the two solutions to utilize instead of cheating. It will require great integrity on the part of both partners. I encourage you to be a person of high moral character before you consider choosing to cheat in your relationship. It’s also important to put healthy boundaries in place to protect your relationship.
I want to encourage you to get the book “Make It Work: 22 Time Tested, Real Life Lessons for Sustaining a Healthy, Happy Relationship” by Tony A Gaskins, Jr. This book is a great resource for anyone who wants to do what is necessary to have a healthy, happy relationship. It is filled with practical, common sense information on ways you and your partner can be the best for each other. In Chapter 8- Be Faithful, Tony Gaskins outlines the importance of staying 100% faithful. I give this book 5 stars so click on the link below and get your copy today!

  • Episode 29: Dating with Intention
In this week’s episode, I am talking about the importance of dating with intention. This is especially crucial if you plan on getting married and having a family one day. What you practice now, will be what you will continue doing later. Marriage, even to the right person, will not save you from your bad dating habits! Be mindful about who you date, and how you go about it. Set a healthy foundation for your marriage to one day stand on. Be honest and upfront about what your intention is for every person that you engage with while dating. Treat people with respect and remember to put out in the world what you want to get back one day!
I spoke on DeVon Franklin’s latest book “The Truth About Men: What Men and Women Need to Know” and he addresses the issue of dating with intention in it. He speaks on the importance of showing discernment and discipline in your dating life so that you can have that same type of discipline when you’re married. Please check out his book, it’s a really good read.

  • Episode 28: Making the Case For Abstinence
In this week’s episode, we discuss abstinence and celibacy among singles. This is one of those topics that you either LOVE it or you HATE it! There is no in between on celibacy! I was honored to interview blogger and writer Monica Rose, the creator of The Joyful Single blog. She recently wrote a blog article entitled “My Celibacy Journey” and I wanted to have her on to discuss her experience with celibacy thus far. We have seen a resurgence with abstinence and celibacy in the last two years since Devon Franklin and his now wife Megan Good wrote a book called “The Wait”. In it, they both chronicled their journey to marriage while practicing abstinence and Devon had practice celibacy for many years before meeting Megan. It’s a great beginner’s guide to abstinence and I encourage you to pick up a copy of it if you’re interested in learning more!

  • Episode 26: The Importance of “Grace” in Your Relationship
In this episode, I talk about the role “grace” has in your relationship. So often, after we have been in a relationship for a while, we start to make assumptions about our partner’s intentions. We assume that they meant to hurt us, or frustrate us, or make us mad. We stop imparting grace to our partner and we begin to think the worse of them. More often than not, our partner is not walking around looking for ways to hurt or humiliate us. That would make them a sociopath and although those types of people exist, they are more the exception and not the rule.
Many of us say and do things out of carelessness and just plain old not thinking. Many of us lack the effective communication skills necessary to have a happy, healthy relationship. If your willing to learn and grow, then keep listening to learn more ways to talk so that your partner will listen and understand. Make growth a part of your relationship journey as well as life journey. When our relationships are really good, everything around us is so much better.
