In this week’s episode, I had the pleasure of interviewing Jennifer Mason of the very popular platform Single Lady Notes on Instagram. I really love Jennifer’s mission of empowering single women to create a healthy standard for themselves and the life they want to live.

Jennifer is a young driven, multifaceted woman with big dreams. Born and raised in Hillside New Jersey at a young age started dreaming big. From pageants to, cheerleading, and Dancing there was nothing she didn’t think she could do.  Jennifer later Left New Jersey to study business Marketing at North Carolina Central University. She also is a certified medical clinical assistant, Program Associate, Entrepreneur, coach, author, sister, friend, daughter but of the titles, she holds “Woman of God” is the one she is most proud of.

Jennifer is no stranger to adversity. Life hasn’t always dealt her the best deck of cards but she plays the faith card all the way to victory. As you get to know her through her books and social media you will see what self-worth, determination, and the power of God’s grace and mercy can do in someone’s life. Jennifer Prays that her life is an example of what faith in God looks like and that you too will know that you can make it!

In this week’s episode of the podcast, I wanted to discuss something I see happening over and over again. Women in dating situations or a relationship who want to “change” the man they are with. Well, as they say, it’s hard enough to change OURSELVES. What makes you think you have what it takes to change a man?

And the older he is, the less likely it will be that he will be open to changing; for you or anyone else. Yes, I believe that you are amazing and special and beautiful and all of that, however, a man has to WANT to change for you and for himself. He has to want to see real VALUE in you to be willing to give you what it is you say you want.  And if that doesn’t happen, it doesn’t mean you are not valuable. It just may mean that HE can’t see that value and that is always HIS problem!

In this week’s episode, I wanted to breakdown the difference between overt and covert narcissism. We hear a lot about overt narcissists as they have no problem with making their needs known in the grandest of ways. They can be especially nasty and self-entitled. They can be downright aggressive and abusive.

The covert narcissist is very sneaky and clever indeed. They will display some similar qualities as the covert narcissist but do it in a very undercover way. They will seem almost humble in their approach. Here is the most important thing of all to remember: whether the man is a covert narcissist or an overt narcissist, it’s highly unlikely that this behavior will get better.

Remember this: it’s YOUR job to protect yourself! I’m giving you the tools to do just that. Develop a set of rules our boundaries for others that will teach them what works for you and what doesn’t and more importantly, stick to them!

In this week’s episode, I am answering a question I get from many women who are in relationships or have become exclusive with a man. In this week’s episode, I am helping my couples to get what they really want with negotiation strategies. Ok, so this isn’t one of the “sexy” tools, but it does work! I often ask my couples why they don’t do it more often. If there is something you want and you are prepared to give your partner something they want in order to get it, then strike a deal.

In couple’s sessions, I actually help couples negotiate deals all of the time. We draft them up, and they each sign it. Once they have a “deal” or “contract” in place, they can each hold the other accountable moving forward. If one person drops the ball on what they promised, the other simply reminds them of their deal and can also now withhold what they promised to them.

Remember, it’s going to take more than love and romance to have a mutually satisfying, happy relationship. You need SKILLS to navigate each day that you both are with each other. Good, healthy, effective skills can make all the difference in your relationship or marriage. Too many people DON’T have the emotional intelligence to learn and implement new skills. In this week’s episode, I wanted to address what I see so many couples falling prey to and that is talking to EVERYONE about your relationship! There are so many reasons why this can damage your relationship. Often times, if there is a problem or concern, you haven’t addressed it with the ONE person who has the power to help you fix it!

This is why I believe in what Mark Manson calls “radical honesty” in relationships. It requires incredible courage to do AND it requires KINDNESS at every turn. I believe that you should be able to express yourself fully and completely, WITHOUT the fear that someone will leave or shut down.

Remember, conflict is a necessary ingredient to have true intimacy in your relationship. Couples who NEVER argue or disagree probably aren’t being their authentic selves. Make a habit to take your concerns directly to your partner FIRST before running it by a trusted friend or confidante. Yes, I think we all need to vent or get wise counsel regarding our relationship concerns. I just want you to make sure you aren’t talking to just anybody and everybody (especially on social media!) about your relationship!

In this week’s episode, I am talking to my ladies on how to talk to a man to get him to really LISTEN and to cherish your feelings. So many women tell me that men hate feelings and emotions. I have found that for the most part, that is NOT true! What men really hate is all the DRAMA that comes with the way a woman expresses herself.

It is downright exhausting to a man to have to deal with the yelling, screaming, sobbing, and overall dramatics when a woman is upset. Remember, if you are over the age of 25, the idea here is to get you to an emotionally mature place where you can learn how to express your thoughts and feelings assertively and calmly. When you speak in a calm, confident tone to a man, it is actually more frightening to him than when you are yelling. He can truly HEAR the words you are saying, and he will more than likely seek to find a solution.

The goal here is to get what you WANT, ladies. And that is a strong, masculine man who wants to hold space for you and will cherish your feelings!
