bare 是光秃秃的，palm 是手心，意思就是穷的就像是光秃秃的手掌心，表示一个人已经一无所有了。

 as poor as a church mouse一文不名；一贫如洗

教堂里的老鼠经常找不到食物，所以 as poor as a church mouse 就是说一个人一文不名。

have nothing on someone  远远比不上
