以前人们说“加油”就会说 add oil，后来这个中式英语还真被《牛津词典》收录了！

以后再说 add oil 就再也不用担心会被说是中式英语啦~

那么问题来了，要是真的要说“加油”应该怎么说呢？

吉米老师觉得，炒菜的时候，想往锅里加点油，倒是能说 add oil。但是如果是去加油站加油呢？

这可就不能说 add oil 了，因为在加油站说 oil 一般会被理解成“机油、润滑油”。

而家用汽车加的油，一般是汽油。

那“汽油”用英语怎么说呢？吉米老师教大家一个超简单的单词：

gas /gæs/

petrol /'petr(ə)l/

汽油

“汽油”在美式英语中是 gas，而在英式英语中是 petrol。

“加油站”就是 gas station 或者 petrol station。具体用 gas 还是 petrol，要看到底是美式英语还是英式英语~

附近有加油站吗？

be low on gas\petrol

汽油不多

be low on something 这个短语表示“短缺的、将耗尽的”，be low on gas 意思就是“汽油不多了、要用完了”。

We are low on gas.

我们的汽油要用完了。

run out of gas\petrol

用光汽油

run out of something 表示“用完、耗尽”。

“快要用完了”就可以说 be running out of，相当于 be low on。

I wanted to drive, but I ran out of gas.

我本来想开车，但是我的车没油了。

gas up

加油

gas 是“汽油”，但“加油”不能说 add gas，而要说 gas up。

I'm looking for a gas station to gas up.

我在找加油站加油。

fill up with gas\petrol

加满汽油

fill up 表示“使充满、使装满”的意思，“装满某物”就是 fill up with something。

“给车加满油”可以说 fill up the car 也可以说 fill up with gas.

Make sure you fill up with gas before you take your road trip.

开始自驾游之前确保把车加满油。

step on the gas

踩油门

这里的 step 是动词，表示“踩”，而 the gas 表示“油门”，step on the gas 就是“踩油门”的意思。

We are going to be late, step on the gas！

我们要迟到了，快踩油门！
