Fence laws are personal boundaries and rules we create to help us keep the commandments and our covenants. We can be tempted in our church culture to impose our personal fence laws on others, leading to unrighteous judgment, offense, and incorrect teachings and risk focusing more on the fence law than the actual gospel doctrine or principal.
