100 Words Or Less: The Podcast

HAPPY 10 YEARS TO THE PODCAST!

All hyperbole aside, this podcast has changed my life for the better and thanks for coming along this journey and love letter to independent music. We make it VERY special by having a white whale guest hanging out this week in the form of Chris Higdon from the almighty (and recently reunited) Elliott! I chased him down for the past 3 years and only recently started popping up in podcasts, so I HAD TO HAVE HIM. We talk about his past bands (Falling Forward, Frontiers), dressing up at shows and being low profile. It was everything I wanted and more. Hope you dig!

Live From Outbreak Fest 2022 we have two amazing humans on this episode. First up, I have Dan Tracy from Deafheaven on to discuss our shared history playing in bands, why no one talks to drummers and tour tips. Right after that, Anthony Anzaldo from Ceremony (fresh off an airline losing his key-tar) comes in to chat about the longevity of the band, how UK audiences receive the band and playing in Cold Cave. Great times and won't you come join us?

Let's talk print media!  One of my favorite publications around is called Dscvrd Magazine and it's editor in chief is a new friend of mine, Georgia Rawson! The magazine is celebrating it's 10 year anniversary and I wanted to pick her brain about all things journalism, supporting bands from the start and not being "afraid" of the business implications of music. I learned a lot and I think you will as well. Enjoy!

LIVE FROM OUTBREAK FEST 2022!

I am so excited to be releasing all of these great discussions to you that I had at the festival and this one in particular was PRETTY, PRETTY GOOD (insert Larry David voice here). First up is a return guest, Kat Moss from Scowl and right after that we have Anaiah & Dez from Zulu on. Both are wide ranging discussions about representation in hardcore, the observations of playing to vastly different audiences and a lot more. Enjoy!

Welp, it's been close to 10 years since I had Jesse on the pod so it felt like a great time to check back in with him and look how both he and the band have grown and changed over that time. We get in depth about his conflicts on social media, the importance of his work with the community bookstore he runs called All Power Books  and their increased popularity in Europe. I love the guy and this conversation was special to me. Enjoy!

LIVE FROM OUTBREAK FEST 2022

We have two great chats with some UK peeps on this weeks podcast. First up is Olli Appleyard from the up and coming band Static Dress who was FRESH off their performance and we joke about it up top. Olli was a great discussion.

Secondly, I have Kadeem France from the post-metal (I just made this up) band Loathe. Kadeem and I didn't know each other at all, but got along real proper and what a cool story he has.

Massive thanks to the Outbreak Festival people and Simon who helped capture the audio on the stage!

Praise. What a band! I have loved the band ever since their "Lights Went Out" LP and it's been a fun ride watching the band evolve and frankly, get better and now we are here with Andy Norton, the vocalist of Praise. We discuss taking creativity seriously, how to work with friends and writing lyrics.

Cave In are legendary. I don't use that word lightly but very few bands have been able to sustain their place in the music scene, evolve sonically and continue to put out some of their best material to date. That being said, I had to chat with Adam McGrath to discuss his life in the Merrimack Valley hardcore scene, early tour stories and being stubborn. It's an all encompassing discussion that I love to have and hope you enjoy!

LIVE FROM OUTBREAK FEST 2022, IT'S 100 WORDS OR LESS!

Jokes aside, I am so pleased to bring you this chat with two heavy hitters in the hardcore scene for my first live podcast experience at the incredible Outbreak Festival in Manchester, UK. I sat down with Nate from Xibalba and Bryan from Knocked Loose to hang out and talk about touring Europe, hardcore in 2022 and so much more.

We have an absolute treat this week with the appearance of my friend Jason Mazzola on the podcast. He sang for a band called Count Me Out, currently sings for a band called Cloak/Dagger as well as the host of Where It Went Podcast (a deep dive into the Revelation Records catalog). As you can see, he's a busy dude but we found time to hang hard and discuss what it's like being podcast nerds, how amazing Chain of Strength is and trying to not be overly nostalgic.
