100 Words Or Less: The Podcast

This episode is for fans of Fat Wreck, Hot Water Music and being popular in Europe. Joking aside, I am very pleased to bring you this discussion that Joe McMahon from Smoke or Fire and I had one afternoon! I had always been a fan of the band but never really knew much about their origin stories, why the band had to change their name and how they signed to Fat Wreck Chords to begin with. Listen, learn and most importantly listen to Smoke or Fire.

Fresh back from quite a time in the UK, I couldn't take a week off because frankly...this conversation was too cool not to share immediately. John Scharbach from the defunct DC hardcore band, Give, is on the pod this week. He also runs a great publishing company entitled Shining Life Zine that you gotta check out as well. We go deep on pursing art, skateboarding and his life in the military. Peep it and enjoy!

I am proud to bring you this very metaphysical chat with Don Devore who is the guitarist for Ink and Dagger, Frail and Collapsing Scenery (among many other projects). Ink and Dagger were huge for me personally and I celebrate their entire catalog and Frail was such a force of nature for the early screamo/hardcore scene that I was stoked Don wanted to talk about that. We go in about how chaotic the Ink and Dagger experience was, creating art at all costs and of course, Vampires. Love the discussion and I hope you do as well.

Let's get introspective with Chris Simpson who is the vocalist for indie rock/emo stalwarts Mineral, The Gloria Record and most recently, his band Mountain Time. We go deep into his family history in the oil biz, his experience with the reunion shows with Mineral as well as being an introvert. I love all his music and hope you gain a deeper appreciation of it after this conversation.

Post Hardcore! Screamo! Hairstylist! Our guest Adam Marino does it all and does it all well. Stoked to have him on to discuss his new band Attempt Survivors, working in the major label systems and the legendary ABC No Rio. We of course discussed his time in Saetia (we recorded this episode before the formal announcement of the reunion shows) as well. Enjoy!

Let's get you acquainted with the man behind DAIS Records, Gibby Miller. He also sang for some great punk/hardcore bands called Panic and The Trouble (both from Boston). We dive deep into growing up in the midwest, the legend of Makeoutclub.com (he was the founder!) and of course the Boston scene. Enjoy!

Hell yes progressive metal, we have Brett Boland who plays in Astronoid hanging with us this week. We talk about the Merrimack Valley scene in Mass, perfectionism and technical metalcore (my personal favorite). Pull up your ear and enjoy!

The damn king of hardcore returns to the podcast after a 7 year break. Scott comes on to talk about the process of keeping a band together, soul searching during COVID and being an introvert. It's always a good time hanging out with him and this is no exception. Listen and stage dive.

I have a treat for you, Kat Moss from Scowl comes to hang out with us today! The band has turned a lot of heads within the hardcore and punk world, so I had to have her on the show. We discuss a lot of things including her being a "horse girl", fashion and RBS (real bay shit). It's an insightful conversation and stoked to have had it.

Today is a special episode with my friend, Andrew Cannon. He’s the brand manager from Santa Cruz Skateboards as well as singing for an incredible band called Worship. We get deep and philosophical about the origin of his love for independent music, health and DNA. I am really glad we got to paint with a broad brush in this episode and hope you enjoy!
