"Grace Sherwood: the Witch of Pungo"-The true story of Virginia's Grace Sherwood, who was the last person to be tried and convicted as a witch in the state of Virginia. Her accusers were many, and while her husband lived they both went to court often to try to defend their reputation and name. She was a midwife and healer, and sometimes the line of demarcation between "healer" and "witch" was hard for people to understand in the age of superstition. "The Mystery of the Ghost Ship Mary Celeste"-The ubrupt disappearance of the Mary Celeste's Captain, his wife and two year old daughter, and the remaining crew of seven, in December of 1872 in the North Atlantic, has been the subject of countless books, articles, and speculation for nearly 150 years. The Mary Celeste was discovered adrift with no one aboard. Evidence showed that the occupants on board had left quickly to avoid some sort of impending danger...but what? And why would they give up the safety of a 180 ton brigantine to that of a 20 foot lifeboat? Sources: Begg, Paul (2007). Mary Celeste:The Greatest Mystery of the Sea. "Baron Von Steuben: The Man Who Saved The American Revolution"- In the bleak winter of 1777 the American Continental Army was in miserable condition. The enemy had scored decisiove victories in New York and at Brandywine and was warmly ensconsced in Philadelphia while Washington's beleagured troops, 10,000 of them, lacked food, clothing, and arms in their bleak encampment at Valley Forge. General Washington knew his troops must be trained and morale built in time for a springtime campaign, and he placed his trust in Baron Von Steuben, a brilliant Prussian officer that Ben Franklin, on assignment in France, had recruited for exactly that reason. One man, with no English speaking skills, two assistant translators, and an Italian greyhound named Azor, was going to shoulder the responsibility for training Washington's troops in three short months. The results were incredible, considering the challenge.
