This week on the Grappling Rewind Podcast we break down Craig Jones Vs Vinny Magalhães on Submission Underground 13 as well talk about UFC 249 and Fight island fight matchups.  

In the news section we talk about some possible matchups that resulted from this weekends SUG card including Raphael Lovato Jr. possibly being slated to face Craig Jones at the next SUG.  We also discuss the possibility of a matchup between Ben Askren and Dillion Dannis. 

In the UFC 249 news we take a look at the stacked card, including all the grapplers Jacare, Werdum.  We talk about Tony Ferguson’s crazy D’Arce percentage in the UFC at one point having 20% of the D’Arce submissions in the UFC.  

In the recap segment of the show we talk about the gross leg breaking that took place in the main event of SUG 13 where Craig Jones Broke Vinny Magalhães leg not once but two times.  We go through some of the transitions in the match, and some items to tape study.  We talk about the goals of Vinny in the exchanges, and how he gutted out minutes of the match with a broken leg, before verbal tapping later due to a broken leg.  This is one of the strangest matches that we have seen in some time. Some great work from Craig showing why he is one of the best leg lockers in the sport. 

We talk about Austin Vanderford Vs Richie Martinez that saw the 3:1 underdog Austin come out on top with a Head and Arm Submission in the second overtime.  We talk about the gamesmanship from Austin and how he played within the rule set to work towards his strengths. 

We talk about Gabriel Checco submitting Jake Ellenberger with a reverse triangle and Emil goes in detail about his interesting Rubberguard set up, and his lock.  We also talk about Ethan Crelinsten submitting Andrew Alexander in overtime and Maine talks about wanting to look at more of Ethan’s passing, as well as some of Ethan’s other matches where his passing was on display. 

In the outro segment of the show Maine and Emil discuss next weeks show, and debate if they want to be a look at Marcello Garcia or if they want to do a deep dive into Craig Jones leg lock entries and style over the past few years.
