This week on the show Maine and Emil recap Fight To Win 141, preview Fight To Win 142, Spyder Korea Road to Black Belt, and Submission Underground (SUG) 14. In the news section of the show we talk about a ton of match ups including Third Coast Grappling’s Kumite II bracket, Woodley vs Durino in the UFC. We talk about news from the IBJJF, and some recently released instructional videos.
In the recap section of the show we talk about Fight To Win 141 headlined by Rafael Lovato Jr vs Arnaldo Maidana for the light heavyweight title. We talk about Lovato returning to the Gi after almost three years, and seemingly not missing a beat in this pressure heavy performance, that ended with a cross choke submission from mount. We look at some grip and passing exchanges in the match, and who Lovato should face next.
In the co-main event, we talk about Edwin Najmi vs Benson Henderson and how crazy good at flying triangles Najmi is. Including talking about some of the spider guard setups used in the match, and some of the comments Najmi made on his preferred finishing sequence ending on his back vs in mount.
We also talk about the Brown Belt title fights including William Tackett vs Troy Russell III. We talk about Tackett’s domination in this match and how he was able to stay multiple steps ahead of Troy, ending the match with a very interesting inverted triangle armbar combination. We also review the rest of the results on the card.
In the preview section of the show we talk about Submission Underground 14 (SUG 14) headlined by Vagner Rocha vs Craig Jones II, we talk about their first match and how the weight difference might play a larger factor in this rematch. We talk about the possibility of Craig implementing more standup with the weight advantage, and Maine theorizes that Craig will pull as he has done in recent SUG matches. Also on the card is Roberto Jimenez, Jake Shields, and Jordan Holy.
In our preview for Fight to Win 142 we dive deep talking about Dante Leon vs Johnny Tama in an exciting rematch between two current IBJJF no-gi world champions. We discuss Gabi Garcia vs Kendall Reusing in what could be a very interesting dynamic in the F2W ruleset. We briefly discuss Lucas Valente vs Mateus Gabriela during the preview.
In the preview for Spyder Korea Road to Black Belt we discuss the mix of Korean, American, and Brazilian competitors in the bracket and talk about historically why we are very happy to see top level colored belts being showcased on the Spyder stage.
In the Outro section Maine and Emil discuss running and Yoga during Quarantine.
