This week on the Grappling Rewind Podcast Maine and Emil recap GrappleFest 9, we preview Fight to Win 146 the return of Caio Terra, we preview the over 180 pound Third Coast Grappling Kumite 4 Bracket, the Polaris 13 GP, and Submission Underground 16 Craig Jones Vs Mason Fowler main event.
In the news section of the show we talk about some upcoming cards including BJJ Stars being announced for FloGrappling for the first time. We also talk about some issues within the community that have happened within the last week. In the brief MMA section of the show we discuss the late replacement of Durino vs Usman that has become Jorge Masvidal fighting for the title.
In the recap section of the show we discuss GrappleFest 9 headlined by Ffion Davies vs Tayane Porfirio in an openweight contest between the two. We talk about the depth of both grapplers games and how a dynamic ability to respond and great top pressure lead to Porfirio victory. We also talk about the co-main event between Jackson Sousa and Dan Strauss, and Ashley Williams and Kev Corkhill dynamic performances in the third billing slot.
In the preview section of the show we run through how we think the Third Coast Grappling Kumite 4 Bracket will shake out including how we think the stacked left side of the bracket will go kicked off with a match 1 of Nick Rodriguez vs Roberto Jimenez, and a possible third match between Nicky Rod and Cyborg in the Semi-Finals. Both Maine and Emil pick Hulk to take the right side of the bracket. We also preview the superfights on the card.
In our preview of Fight to Win 146 the return of Caio Terra, we talk about the last time that we saw Caio on the Fight to Win stage and predict that he will return in top form for this matchup. Also the card are Edwin Najmi taking on Osvaldo “Queixinho” Moizinho, and one of the shows favorite guillotine hunters John Combs, plus a fourth from the top slot match with Edwin “Junny” Ocasio vs Justin Ordinario. This time F2W moves to Austin after running shows in Dallas for the last few months.
After that we discuss the Polaris 13 GP and the top UK talent featured. Including appearances by Polaris staples Freddy Vosgrone, Ross Nicholas, Tom Breese, and Bradley Hill.
Concluding the previews we talk about Submission Underground 16 Headlined with Craig Jones Vs Mason Fowler in the main event. We discuss these two’s first matchup and possibly what format this bout will take place in. We talk about how the overtime will possibly play into this and where we think each grappler has an edge.
In the outro section Maine and Emil talk about what it feels like to be learning new skills and being a white belt again.
