1912 Exiles

Even the most positive podcast in Newport struggles to find much cheer in this one... After a dismal home defeat to Barrow, Rhys caught up with Ed and Ollie to sift through what went wrong and what needs to happen for things to improve. They address head-on the 'Rowberry Out' calls, consider whether experience is what's needed to steady the ship, and ponder whether Ed is changing his underpants regularly enough.

We refer a few times during the discussion to this graphic from Martyn, showing where the teams were passing (and not passing) during Saturday's game. Well worth a look.

As always, whether you agree or disagree with the panel, drop us a line via Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn with any feedback. And if you're feeling flush, you can also chip in towards our running costs so we can keep the pod going in these straitened times.

Ok, so perhaps the word 'cheerful' is not the right phrase here... Jamie Harris made the trip to Hertfordshire on a wet Tuesday evening for our League Two match at Stevenage and has kindly provided his audio diary. Look out for his Eeyore impression post-match.

Back with another episode and a full panel soon, but in the meantime please contact us via Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn with any suggestions for topics to discuss or questions for the panel.

A short episode to keep you going - not sure yet whether we'll be able to muster a full panel next weekend, so instead we bring you midweek match reaction and a preview for Saturday.

First up, a big thank-you to debutant Esme for stepping up and providing a review of the Spotafan Trophy game at Exeter City - enjoy listening to her thoughts on the match and what selection headaches the win might cause James Rowberry going into the weekend. We then have an excerpt from a longer chat we had with the good people at the DN35 pod ahead of Saturday's match against Grimsby, in which we ask them about how their season's going and both sides console each other about the carthorse that is Ryan Taylor...

That's it for now. Back with another episode soon, but in the meantime please contact us via Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn with any suggestions for topics to discuss or questions for the panel.

Anyone heard from the "Rowberry Out" lads, lately? They seem to have gone a bit quiet...

What a pleasure to bring you reports on two victories - each magnificent in their own way. First up, we handed a 1912 Exiles debut to young Ollie Allen to talk us through the 3-2 victory against Portsmouth in the Second Round of the League Cup - and he doesn't disappoint. Then it's over to our old faithful Ian Street to tell us about the 4-0 thumping of Harrogate, and seemingly to try and get the word "charcuterie" into the recording as many times as possible...

We hope you enjoy the episode, and that you enjoy the pod as a whole - remember, you can chip in towards our costs if you're able to spare a few coins. And you can contact us via Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn with any suggestions for topics to discuss or questions for the panel.

WE WON A HOME GAME!

Following the joy and relief of three points at Rodney Parade against Tranmere, Rhys sat down with Ed, Ian and Martyn to unpack what we can deduce from our opening five games. We also take advantage of Martyn's massive football brain by having a 'deep dive' into the tactical approach taken by Rowberry this season and examine what's worked and what hasn't.

Elsewhere, Ian grumbles about his four-decade-long dislike of Portsmouth, Ed eats humble pie, and Martyn explains "4-box-2" for dummies. This is a good listen, enjoy.

As always, you can contact us via Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn with any suggestions for topics to discuss or questions for the panel. We'll be back next weekend with an audio diary of Ian Street on the Northern Beat, and some thoughts on the Pompey game in the League Cup.

In what we fear may become a regular feature this season, Ian managed to find some positives from a Newport County defeat. On a  day Ian described as being "hot as Hades", the Exiles failed to come to the boil, so Ian's daughter's first County game was something of a disappointment.

We have two home games coming up next week, against Salford on Tuesday and Tranmere on Saturday, so we'll have a full panel discussion next weekend to explore what we've learned from County's first six matches. Stay tuned!

Pfft, well that was a bit rubbish, wasn't it?

In an exclusive* audio diary, Ed reports on Flynn's return, with input as well from special guest Simon. Like James Rowberry, they muse on how Walsall managed to escape Rodney Parade with all three points despite not mustering a single chance on goal. And in the second half of the pod, we hear from the Oak Road Hatter about how strong a side they might field in Tuesday's game in the Type 2 Diabetes Cup.

Big match on Saturday, innit? First home game of the season, Flynn's return, and against one of Div 4's big summer spenders. To get you in the mood and to give you some intel on the opposition, Ed caught up with the super-talented Tom Lines of One Pod Beyond to find out how Walsall have fared since Flynn took over in January and what we can expect this weekend.

We'll be back soon with match reaction and possible a look ahead to Tuesday's game against Luton in the Type 2 Diabetes Cup. As always, you can find us on Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn if you have any feedback or questions.

County got their first point and first goal of 2022/23 with an opening day draw at Sutton. We bring you a live audio diary of the day courtesy of Ian and Jamie, who get a bit philosophical at times, segueing seamlessly between the meaning of life and Will Evans vs Adam Lewis at left-back. Only on the 1912 Exiles pod, eh?

Enjoy the episode and we'll be back during the week with a preview of the big game against Mike Flynn's Walsall.

The 2022/23 football season is very nearly upon us (no, really). Rhys, Ed, Ian and Jamie get together to discuss the opening day trip to Sutton, to figure out whether James Rowberry wants to play Total Football, and to take their best guess at where a final loan signing might fit in. As is tradition, Ian also leads the way with bold predictions and Ed makes the case for killing off a beloved character... We also hear from Mike at Sutton United Talk Time to get the opposition view ahead of Saturday's curtain-raiser.

We'll be back with an “Ian Street on the southern beat” report next weekend, also featuring Jamie, as well as with a look ahead to the Walsall game.
