Small- and Mid-cap stocks have been in the news, outperforming the large caps over the past few days by a few large degree. There's a nice buy-signal on mid-caps, which are extremely overbought by three standard-deviations above the moving average. This generally doesn't last for long. Recall how we've discussed the performance of large-caps of late; mid-caps and small-caps have not had the same breakout yet. The question now is, is this the rotation from large-caps into small- and mid-cap stocks? Why should you be concerned? 40% of these small- or mid-cap companies are now unprofitable; they don't earn money. And, they're very dependent upon debt. The problem will come up when the time comes to refinance that debt, which they may not be able to do.
