Your Shadow trails around you,

slow as smoke, collecting your secrets.

Old folks say a shadow’s not just light’s child —

it’s your spirit trailing home.

You can’t deceive it,

but you can feed it.

You can ignore it, but it’s better to

speak to it sweet, like a lover.

Because like a lover, it walks beside you.
