With many people on edge right now challenging emotions are more present than ever. Anxiety. Frustration. Fear. Even anger. Yet, as deeply social creatures we're still living and working together.
In today's episode I share a technique born from 20 years of service experience as well as my education in psychology - RARE. It stands for Recognize, Appreciate, Reassure, Execute and it's the system I teach in my communication workshops and mentoring. This simple 4 part system allows each of us to hold space for another person's challenging emotion. It's based on the premise that you cannot resolve a transactional need (getting coffee, syncing schedules, holding a meeting) if challenging emotions go unaddressed.
