It’s almost Christmasssssss!! And whilst we both absolutely love Christmas,  for those of us who suffer with ADHD the festive period can be a highly stressful time. Christmas requires a lot of executive planning,  and well…. we all know - we’re useless at that.

It’s not unusual for our anxiety levels to be heightened which leads to last minute shopping trips (can anyone say, Xmas Eve), taking on wayyy too much, leaving things till the very last minute and our emotional reactions which can normally be (sort of) managed, seem out of control.

In this episode we’ll be discussing our personal Christmas chaos stories and what we’re going to do this year to help manage our ADHD symptoms to be have a better more relaxed Christmas!

This week were discussing the ADHD medication Concerta.
It's Shell's first week on Concerta so Sparky takes to the mic to question Shell on how she’s been feeling since starring on the medication, all positives, the negatives and what the overall experience has been like so far on Concerta.

We also touch upon the differences between Concerta and Elvanse/ Vyvanse, whilst making a very surprising discovery about one of the medications.

This week we have a huge podcast update for you all and In this episode we discuss the funny side of ADHD inattentive symptoms (as we go through the diagnostic criteria of ADHD for the next couple of episodes) to kick start our newly found focus on ADHD.  This is part 1 of 2 episodes on inattention and then we'll do  2 episodes on hyperactivity.  So plenty of upcoming ADHD content.

ADHD stands for Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder. It is a neurodevelopmental disorder that affects both children and adults. ADHD is characterized by symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity that are persistent and impair functioning in multiple settings, such as home, school, work, and social situations.

Inattention symptoms may include difficulty sustaining attention on tasks, being easily distracted, forgetfulness, poor organization, and avoiding tasks that require mental effort. Hyperactivity symptoms may include excessive talking, restlessness, fidgeting, and difficulty sitting still. Impulsivity symptoms may include interrupting others, blurting out answers, and engaging in risky behavior without considering the consequences.

This week we're talking about Sparky's story with trying to get an ADHD assessment on the NHS in the UK. There's been a few set backs and we felt is was important to discuss this for anyone who's in a similar situation who wants to know, and would like to go down the route of using the NHS for getting your ADHD assessment.

Shell also updates on how she's getting on with the NHS currently and what's it's been like for her.

 All these are our own thoughts and are in now way directed at the NHS as a whole, we are both aware the NHS do wonderful things in many areas of health care and we are positive there are some success stories (if you have any success stories please email us below)  Our story should in no way dissuade you from using the NHS or cloud your judgement on your decision to use the NHS  for an ADHD assessment should you need to pursue a diagnosis for anything mental health related.

This week we're talking about Shell's ADHD assessment, which she had this week, so it's fresh in her mind! We'll be discussing what a typical assessment looks like as Sparky grills Shell on what sort of questions a psychiatrist asks during the assessment, what's involved in the process, how to prepare for it, and also what happens after the assessment.

The long awaited question does Shell have ADHD will also be answered!
This is a huge step in both of our journey's and one that Sparky feels privileged to be able have before his assessment!

As you are aware by now, it's the usual interrupting each other, and laughs at each others expense along the way. This may be a more factual episode than usual, but this a every important episode for anyone who wants to hear what an assessment is like.
