In an effort to limit unnecessary testing and increase diagnostic yield, current major guideline recommendations recommend a risk-based strategy with deferred testing in low-risk patients, catheterization in high risk patients, and selective noninvasive testing for those at intermediate risk. To date, no randomized trial has explored the clinical efficacy and safety of any such strategy.
