  • Critter of the Week: Green Hydra
Passionate conservationist Nicola Toki and Jesse talk critter of the week. This week it is the green hydra. This bright green, stinging, tentacled predator is immortal, swallows live prey whole, is closely related to jellyfish…and is probably lurking in your local stream. Luckily, it's less than a centimetre long. It reminds Nicola of the wee guy (her research tells her it's a bow truckle) that hangs out in Newt Schamander's pocket in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016). Big thanks to Ross McCulloch, University of Otago for the information on the green

  • New evidence linking weight loss to love and jobs
Some new research out of Harvard University caught our eye .. it's found a connection between women finding love and a job .. if they are slimmer. The study compared the marriage and employment rates of women on GLP-1 drugs, like Wegovy, to a control group of women who wanted to take the drugs but hadn't yet started. Around 18,000 New Zealanders are taking Wegovy after prescriptions became available in New Zealand last year. AUT Associate Professor for Planetary Health Julie Trafford chats to Jesse about the study and its findings.

  • We get Murray Mexted's take on South Africa clash
Tomorrow morning - at 5AM NZ Time - the All Blacks kick off a tour of South Africa The schedule is a demanding one: three provincial matches, four Tests against the Springboks, and a one-off clash with the Lions. It's the first full tour since 1996. That's 30 years ago, and well before most of the current squad were even born. The tour has been branded Rugby's Greatest Rivalry, and few people know what that rivalry feels like better than former All Black Murray Mexted. He toured South Africa with the Cavaliers and played three seasons of domestic rugby there. He chats to Jesse.
