Growing up Bryce didn't really know what he wanted to do in sports, he states he wasn't really any good at anything school offered. As family, he sailed and when he went to University he started kick boxing and weight training.
Bryce got into surf life saving and competed for GB, a sport that includes, running, swimming, paddle-boarding and kayaking. On Episode 62 we feature our first athlete from an ethnic background, Henry St Clair.
Henry is currently the Ambassador for the charity Sarcoidosis UK. Henry is an ethnic minority age group triathlete and sufferer of long sarcoid, he wanted to come on the pod to tell his story and try and use it as a way to attract more black and ethnic minorities to this wonderful sport.
His journey to overcome multiple organ Sarcoidosis ( Lungs, Brain, Heart, Eyes, Skin and Central Nervous System) in pursuit of good health had been long and hard. Initially taking just over 2 years to diagnose and a further 7 years with long bouts of illness .
Thanks to the benefit of changes in his nutrition and living an active and healthy lifestyle as a triathlete, Henry is now fit and able with good health, enjoying varied outdoor activities and achieved his dream to proudly represent GB, as an age group triathlete at the World Triathlon Championships in Montreal Canada this year.
As an ethnic minority and Corporate Governance Professional Henry is conscious of the importance of raising awareness for greater diversity in sport and the benefits exercise and nutrition can have on one's physical and mental health and in doing so, help to encourage more ethnic minorities to participate in sport.
We had a great chat about diversity and Henry gave is thoughts as a Black man what could be done. Food for thought.
enjoy.

On this Episode we speak to Donald Brooks,
Donad got in touch and said he would like to share his story and what a story.
This year he set out the challenge of winning every British title in his agegroup, it is a moment to remember, to win one , so for Donald Brooks to win all five in one year is an impressive feat as he became British champion in every distance and multisport possible in his age group in 2022.
As a child Donald was a competitive swimmer within a club but fell out of love with club swimming around the age of 12. He then started playing water polo as this looked more fun than just swimming and kept him in the pool.
His Dad had always been a scuba diver and Donald also wanted to do this but could not join the British sun Aqua club until the age of 14.
As soon as he turned 14 he signed up and started training. He found out that the club also had an off shot of an Under water hockey club (Octopush) which he tried and loved. Donald stopped playing water polo and fully committed to under water hockey. He played this until the age of 35, representing Great Britain on many occasions as and elite and masters (over 35) player.
Donald took up competitive swimming again when he was 21 in a masters club and is still involved and swimming regular.
While swimming with the masters club some people used to take part in an Aquathlon that was held at the pool he swam in andheI tried a few of these.
I ended up doing my first triathlon in 2014 got hooked and the rest they say is history.
hope you enjoy Donald Story

Simon started running at school and joined his local club (Tamworth AC) at the age of 12 and went on to run for one of the top clubs in the country Birchfield Harriers when he was 25 for a few years until he did a triathlon with work in 2007 and then from that entering some local duathlons. Simon has done a few Ironman races too including Bolton, Tenby, and Zurich.
Simon started to take duathlon more seriously in 2016 paying for his British Triathlon membership and doing his first qualification race at Clumber Park.
Simon had some good results with 12th and 14th at Worlds and a 10th at the Europeans.
At this time he was competing and training with Colitis, lifestyle changes since have seen a huge improvement and he hasntt had a flare-up for a few years now.
Turning 40
Simon became vegetarian and got a strength and conditioning coach and also started his Project 1660 to run a sub-16-minute 5k and a sub-60-minute 25-mile time trial to help with duathlons. he has since done Project 3455 (sub 34 min 10k and sub 55min 25-mile TT) and this year he is doing Project 1620 (sub 16min 5k and sub 20minute TT). The aim of these projects is to give him a focus outside of the duathlon to push himself, which has really helped him, as Simon spent a few years shying away from racing except for duathlon qualification races and championships. It's really brought him on the last few years.
Duathlon Palmares 2021
Duathlon Palmares 2022
Simon has worked hard over the past few seasons to get his V40 PBs down and also improve his time trialing to aid duathlons.

On episode 57 we have Agegrouper, Dentist, creator of the wonder clinic, the Do Better podcast and Blogger, Stevie Potter
Stevie says
“didn’t always start off in the blue tracksuit; I was just a clever potato for my formative years, with no passion for sport and certainly no aptitude for it, but I had always been an active kid and came from a family who always encouraged me to do my best.
After realising the party lifestyle was taking its toll when I hit University, I decided it was time to do something about my health before it was too late and so my running journey began…
Fast forward 13 very rollercoaster years and I’ve finished my dental degree, competed in international rowing competitions, run the London marathon, completed Ironman Wales, graced multiple running and triathlon podiums and have qualified to represent my country at the top level of amateur triathlon racing.
When I started the Wonder Clinic, the aim was to use my clinical expertise to help people find confidence in their own skin, something I’d loved being able to do with my cosmetic dentistry. While I was on that journey, I realised I was also being asked by my clients about what to eat, how to train and how I had made it to where I had in my life outside of work. I realised then, that I also had the passion and knowledge to be able to coach them through the physical and mental strategies that had got me where I am today.
Now, I spend most of my time sharing my knowledge of fitness and nutrition with my 1-2-1 coaching clients and in my group of motivated go-getters on facebook. I help people revolutionise the way they look at food and exercise and help them to see the importance of long term investment in their own wellbeing. I teach people to LOVE a healthy lifestyle, while still enjoying balance. I give people their confidence back and what’s more, they keep it that way. No faddy diets, no falling off the wagon, but true transformation, learning from all my successes and mistakes and more importantly, my years of experience and knowledge in my field which took me from academic potato to GB athlete!
Hope you enjoy her story.

Jasons background as a runner stood him in good stead when he ventured into Duathlon on a borrowed bike. Listen to Jasons journey from life long runner including Fell running and cross country to having a go at Duathlon and being pretty good at it. That led him into the world of qualifying and representing GB, where his results have been a mixed bag. After a Mountain Bike crash and broken collar bone and ribs he is recovering to once again represent GB in Spain Bilbao, in September.
Great conversation, hope you enjoy.
