The previous US ambassador in Canberra, Jeffrey Bleicher, who happens to be Jewish, expressed his disagreement with his countrys ban on immigrants and condemned those around the world who remained neutral over this issue. The Jewish community in Melbourne has expressed their disappointment and regret, following the announcement by the Israeli Embassy in Canberra that the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may have to cancel his planned visit in that city, because of his previously unplanned trip to the Washington to meet with President Donald Trump. Speakers at the Holocaust Memorial Day commemorations in Melbourne and Sydney, including survivors, warned against the forgetting the horrific history of the Holocaust and called for eternal vigilance against the repetition of such horrific events.
