Let's talk about the business of wellness…
Alexia Brue is the Co-Founder and CEO of Well+Good, a lifestyle publication devoted to the health and wellness industry. Launched in 2009, Alexia and her Co-Founder Melisse Gelula, have grown the Well+Good audience to 12 million visitors per month and diversified their product offering to include unforgettable retreats, a highly-rated cookbook and on-demand video. In 2018, Well+Good was acquired by Leaf Group for $10 million.
In this episode, Alexia shares how Well+Good got started, what self-funding taught them about discipline, and why experiential marketing is part of the online publication’s DNA. We also discuss the journey leading up to the sale of Well+Good, the consolidation of the industry, and how big media players like Google and Facebook have made it difficult for small publishers.
Recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic, Alexia believes that there will forevermore, be an increased awareness around health and that the telemedicine and digital fitness trends will continue to see accelerated growth.
