In the past week, Turkish leaders have compared European countries to Nazi regimes. The Dutch and German governments stopped Turkish ministers from holding rallies on Turkey's upcoming referendum on constitutional changes that would give more power to Turkey's president. Europe fears that fundamental freedoms are not being respected in Turkey, notably after a crackdown on political opposition following an attempted coup last July. Turkey is now saying it is reviewing the Turkey-EU migration deal agreed upon a year ago, aimed at reducing the number of refugees arriving into the EU. A year on, European leaders hail that deal as an overall success and want it replicated elsewhere.
Some NGOs, however, say that all sides fail to mention the devastating effects on the lives of the people involved.
Turkey's Ambassador to France, Dr Ismail Hakki Musa, and Director of the Jacques Delors Institute, Yves Bertoncini, gives us their views on the change in tone in Turkey-EU relations and also on the migration deal.
