They seem to have stabilized themselves a bit and are very much in the thick of things. This comes despite not having an even league average power play and meh production within the bottom six. One area where the Penguins have gotten solid play more often than not is in net. Whether it be Tristan Jarry or Alex Nedeljkovic. The latter has really impressed much more as of late and it brings into question if Mike Sullivan should try to roll with the hot hand a little bit more. A no-brainer move that makes sense all around is done and gives us all something to look forward to this upcoming season. This seems like the right time to add to the roster via free agency/trade and as we sit here right now, the team has done very little to improve their roster externally. They added Marco Gonzales via trade from the Atlanta Braves and signed Rowdy Tellez and Ali Sanchez. The Sanchez move came on the heels of losing promising youngster Endy Rodriguez for the entire 2024 season. The team's inconsistent season continued over the last week with a comeback victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning followed by back-to-back OT/Shootout losses to their cross-state rival Philadelphia Flyers. Tristan Jarry, who has been fantastic in net also potted his first NHL goal and first by a goalie in Pittsburgh Penguins history. He along with their top line of Sidney Crosby, Jake Guentzel and Bryan Rust have been fantastic. It's really everything and everyone else that hasn't been producing. Evgeni Malkin and Reilly Smith got off to a hot start but have since gone cold.
