Welcome back to the studio.  This is My Day of Play, where you’re taken into the real events and actions of how it happens long before the process of editing or cleaning up.  This is how it really went.  Reinventing the wheel is an everyday thing.  So is reinventing your recording studio because Mother Nature has taken a swing at you.  We start things off with a very raw in technology conversation with actor Scott Patterson from Sullivan’s Crossing. Conversation number two goes deep into the experience of being a young adult author in a very complicated world. It’s Robin Benway. This is My Day of Play.  Completely unedited in the way of meeting the wizard behind the curtain.

  • Culture Writer And Reporter Ashley Spencer Disney High The Untold Story
The first unauthorized look at the inner workings-and ultimate breakdown-of the Disney Channel machine. For many kids growing up in the 2000s, there was no cultural touchstone more powerful than Disney Channel, the most-watched cable channel in primetime at its peak. Today, it might best be known for introducing the world to talents like Hilary Duff, Raven-Symoné, Zac Efron, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, the Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato, and Zendaya. It wasn't always destined for greatness: when The Disney Channel launched in 1983, it was a forgotten stepchild within the Walt Disney Company, forever in the shadow of Disney's more profitable movies and theme parks. But after letting the stars of their Mickey Mouse Club revival-among them Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, and Ryan Gosling-slip through their fingers, Disney Channel reinvented itself as a powerhouse tween network. In the new millennium, it churned out billions of dollars in original content and triple-threat stars whose careers were almost entirely controlled by the corporation. Suddenly, everyone wanted a piece of the pie-and there were constant clashes between the studio, network, labels, and creatives as Disney Channel became a pressure cooker of perfection for its stars. From private feuds and on-set disasters, to fanfare that swept the nation and the realities of child stardom, culture journalist Ashley Spencer offers the inside story of the heyday of TV's House of Mouse, featuring hundreds of exclusive new interviews with former Disney executives, creatives, and celebrities to explore the highs, lows, and everything in between.

  • Versatile Five Sport Broadcaster Kenny Albert Marks His 31st Season At FOX Sports
When Kenny Albert was growing up, family gatherings sounded a lot like a dispatch from the first all-sports radio station. There was his father, Marv, whose voice shaped the sound of modern basketball, and there too were his uncles Al and Steve-a trio of professional play-by-play men with a listenership that spanned the country. It was only a matter of time before Kenny, armed with a toy tape recorder, yearned to follow in their footsteps. Some 3,000 broadcasts later, Kenny Albert has amassed countless stories from the world of sports and media. A Mic for All Seasons is his chronicle of a charmed yet unlikely journey, from a youth spent calling games in his bedroom for a fictitious audience to ten-hour bus rides with a minor-league hockey team, plus the time he worked five different sports in one chaotic, 19-day stretch. The only play-by-play broadcaster who currently calls all four major sports in North America, Albert details the stand-out moments from his three-decade career, including the 1994 Stanley Cup Final, Jose Bautista's bat flip in the 2015 ALCS, and the U.S. women's hockey Olympic gold-medal winning shootout in Pyeongchang in 2018.Part memoir, part behind-the-scenes look at the world of broadcast media, A Mic for All Seasons also features stories about life in the booth, game preparation, travel hijinks, marquee events, meetings with star athletes and coaches, and much more.

  • Play It Forward Episode 639 Carlos Whittaker Releases The Book Reconnected
Thank you for being part of the conversation.  This is Play It Forward.  Real people.  Real stories.  The struggle to Play It Forward.  Episode 639 with Carlos Whittaker the author of the book Reconnected. In a world dominated by screens and technology, Carlos Whittaker takes readers on an extraordinary journey of self-discovery and reconnection. The book chronicles his seven-week experience of unplugging from the digital noise, completely screen free.   Over the course of the seven weeks, Carlos spent time with 20 Benedictine monks in the high desert of Southern California in 23 hours a day of silence, lived on an Amish sheep farm, working the land, and sheering sheep, and learned how to exist with his family and truly connect with them completely unplugged. On top of that, he even had his brain scanned by a neuroscientist before and after the experiment to see what changed - and the results were quite staggering.   Not many people have the opportunity to spend weeks entirely devoid of phone and computer screens, but Carlos' radical, screen-free experiment yields hope and wisdom to everyone who has felt the loneliness, low-key despair, and paradoxical disconnectedness that accompanies the always-on, always-plugged-in nature of modern life. Now bringing his message to the masses, he's eager to share some of the lessons he learned along the way.
