Sneak Peek at the DJI Mavic Air 2, New DJI Drones, Drone Deliveries, Drones for Enforcing Social Distancing, 3D Modeling and VR for Real Estate Marketing

Our biggest story this week is about the DJI Mavic Air 2. Recent FCC filings have corroborated our initial reports that a new Mavic Air 2 is indeed in the works. Like its larger cousins, the Mavic 2 Pro and Zoom, these filings suggest that this new DJI drone will come in two variants as well.

Considering the ongoing virus outbreak, we speculate why there is a strong possibility that DJI might come out with a variant that is tailored specifically for public safety. Additionally, because this drone will weigh more than 250 grams, it will come with ADS-B receivers for enhanced airspace safety. Our biggest story this week is about the Autel Evo 2. Regular ADU listeners might recall that Autel Robotics caused quite a splash when they first announced the Autel Evo 2 at CES 2020. We even managed to get our hands on the Autel Evo 2 for a test flight and were quite impressed with the results. You can check out our detailed review here.

Initially, Autel was targeting a release date of January. However, Autel ran into some major production glitches. Of course, the coronavirus outbreak further disrupted their supply chain and delayed the release date even further. But, drone enthusiasts will be happy to know the first batch has been shipped, and some pilots have already received their drones.

Next, we discuss how the ongoing virus outbreak has affected drone pilots in the US. While certain sectors like the hotel and tourism industry have come to a complete standstill, some niche sectors are witnessing an increased demand for drone services. Within the private sector, more and more people are hiring drone pilots for roof inspections. Ditto for the construction industry.

Within the public space, law enforcement officers are turning towards drones for surveillance purposes. Using drones for disinfecting public spaces is another excellent end-use as it greatly limits human to human contact. We discuss all this and much more in this segment of the show.

Today's question is about using someone else's demo reel.

Our caller for today, Eric from New Hampshire has come up with a rather interesting question today. Eric, a new pilot is in a hurry to kickstart his new drone business. He wishes to know if he can use an experienced pilot's reel to acquire new clients. What if Eric is upfront with his prospective clients about the reel's creator? And, what if he Eric manages to get permission from the pilot who shot the reel? Is it still morally incorrect? Would this hurt the commecial prospects of the pilots who originally created the footage?

Regular ADU listeners might guess Paul's stance on this issue. Paul has made a name for himself in the drone industry after years of hard work and learning. And this is an issue that he has dealt with on a regular basis. In today's show we discuss why it is impossible for a new drone pilot to exactly replicate the work of his more experienced peers.
