Dr. Gregorio Sicard is Professor Emeritus of Surgery and Emeritus Chief of Vascular Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He trained in general surgery at the Barnes Hospital, Washington University School of Medicine, and completed the first Transplantation Fellowship there. He eventually became the Chief of Vascular Surgery and Chief of General Surgery at Washington Hospital. He founded the Vascular surgery fellowship there in 1983. He is a former President of the Society of Vascular Surgery, and recipient of the 2018 Society for Vascular Surgery Lifetime Achievement Award. He was a pioneer in the retroperitoneal approach to the aorta, and is regarded as a master aortic surgeon by his peers. He has a legacy of trainees who have gone on to assume leadership roles in Vascular Surgery.
Dr. Frank Caputo is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. He is also the Vascular Surgery Director of the Aorta Center, Program Director of the Vascular Surgery Training Programs. His clinical interests include complex open and endovascular repair of thoracic, thoracoabdominal and abdominal aortic aneurysms, management of thoracic dissection, endovascular and open repair of failed endografts. Dr. Caputo earned his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry New Jersey, Newark, NJ, where he also served his surgical residency and two years as a National Institutes of Health research fellow. He completed his fellowship in vascular surgery at Barnes-Jewish Hospital of Washington University, St. Louis, Mo. where he served as administrative fellow. He joined the Cleveland Clinic medical staff in 2018.

Welcome back to our series on Landmark Papers in Vascular Surgery. In this episode, Jacob, Amanda, and Matt sit down with Dr. William Jordan to discuss arguably one of the most landmark papers in the field, the NASCET trial.
Dr. Jordan is the John E. Skandalakis Chair of Surgery, and Professor and Chief of the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy at the Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia. He completed his medical degree at Emory, followed by a general surgery residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a vascular surgery fellowship at Emory. He serves on the editorial board of the JVS family of publications and for several other journals. He is the immediate past president of the Society of Clinical Vascular Surgery, and among many contributions to research in vascular surgery in general, he has published extensively on the treatment of carotid disease. Dr. Jordan, thanks for your leadership of the specialty, and for joining us to discuss NASCET.

Dr. Albert Sam is a specialty care physician board-certified in vascular and endovascular surgery. Prior to joining Inova he was in private practice in Middletown, CT, and was the founder and director of the Middlesex Health multidisciplinary limb preservation program. He previously served as the Chief of Vascular Surgery at Baton Rouge General Hospital as well as at the Tulane Heart & Vascular Institute in New Orleans. In addition to becoming one of the first physicians nationally to be board certified in general surgery, vascular surgery, and endovascular medicine, he has served as a principal investigator for numerous national and international vascular clinical trials, including the NIH stroke trials CREST and CREST-2.
Dr. Bryan Fisher, Sr. (@amputationsuck) is a board-certified vascular surgeon and a member of The Surgical Clinic in Nashville, TN. He completed his general surgery residency at the Ohio State University and his vascular fellowship at Vanderbilt University. He serves as the Chief of Vascular Surgery, Director of Wound Care, and co-Director of the Center for Limb Preservation.
