Airline Economics and KPMG visited BOC Aviation in November during the Growth Frontiers Singapore conference to speak with Robert Martin, who just announced his retirement as managing director and chief executive, along with his successor Steven Townend who assumed the role of CEO and MD from January 1.
BOC Aviation is a leading global aircraft operating leasing company with a fleet of 684 aircraft owned, managed and on order. Its owned and managed fleet was leased to 91 airlines in 45 countries and regions worldwide as at December 31, 2023. BOC Aviation is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and has its headquarters in Singapore with offices in Dublin, London, New York and Tianjin.

In this interview, Tom Baker, CEO and President of Aviation Capital Group (ACG), speaks to Kieran O’Brien, Head of Aviation Advisory for KPMG in Singapore in November.
ACG is a top ten lessor, with over 400 aircraft in its portfolio, serving over 90 customers in over 45 countries. It is wholly owned by Tokyo Century and based in Newport Beach, California. The lessor also has offices based in Dublin and Singapore. Baker assumed leadership of the company in November 2020, and prior to this he served as executive vice president and chief revenue officer where he was responsible for leading ACG’s sales and marketing, and trading and technical teams.
Baker shares his thoughts on the supply issues affecting aircraft related to the secondary market and whether it is impacting asset values. In this interview, he also provides ACG’s slightly different perspective on the higher interest rates impacting lease rate factors.

Aircastle is a leading secondary market lessor that has operated for nearly two decades. It owns and manages 248 aircraft, valued at around $7 billion. The company is owned by Marubeni and Mizuho Leasing of Japan. Inglese was appointed to CEO from 2017. Prior to this, he was the company’s CFO from 2007.
Inglese shares his thoughts on how the demand for aircraft and the performance of lessors has benefited from the supply constraints facing the industry. In this interview, he also gives his perspective on how ESG may impact the lessor business in the future.
