In this episode of Encouraging the Encouragers, Mitch Matthews tackles a common struggle among new coaches—how to effectively follow up with potential clients without feeling like you’re yelling into the void.
Inspired by a listener’s question, Mitch shares practical strategies to avoid the dreaded "checking in" black hole and instead build meaningful, value-driven relationships.
Whether you're struggling with ghosting, wondering when and how to follow up, or looking for ways to nurture leads without feeling pushy, this episode provides powerful insights and actionable steps to help you close more clients with confidence.
✔️ Set Clear Follow-Up Expectations: Ask potential clients when they’d like you to check in before ending a complimentary call. This builds intentionality and prevents unnecessary follow-ups.
✔️ Recognize the Power of Catalytic Moments: Sometimes clients need an external push—like a work challenge or personal realization—to take action. Your coaching offer might be the answer, but timing is key.
✔️ Follow Up with Positive Intent: Instead of "just checking in," assume they still want to move forward and phrase your messages with confidence, like:
"Hey [Name], following up as we discussed. Which package would you like to move forward with?"
✔️ Bring Value Instead of Just Following Up: Share relevant articles, podcast episodes, or insights that align with their needs. This keeps you top-of-mind while building trust and credibility.
✔️ Use the “Brief But Brilliant” Approach: If you haven't heard back in a while, send a short but direct email like:
"Hey [Name], hope you're doing great! We previously discussed working together—what are your thoughts on the next steps?"
