On August 1, 2022, 18-year-old Aurora Dahl went for a run in Michigan that she barely survived. The next day, someone killed Patrick Ernst in his Wisconsin home. Another murder down in Alabama that took the life of Dwight Dixon would link the same suspect to all three cases.

Tillie Klimek has many nicknames, among them “The Black Widow of Chicago,” “The High Priestess of the Bluebeard Clique,” and—my favorite—“The Premonition Poisoner.” She was rumored to be a psychic, and said to have poisoned as many as 20 people, cementing her name as one of the merry murderesses of 1920s Chicago.

In August 2023, trash collectors working at a garbage dump in Thailand discovered a fertilizer bag filled with dismembered human remains. The body parts came from an island that’s popular with tourists—Koh Phan-Ngan. Investigators soon connected this murder to a YouTube star who’s also a member of a famous Spanish acting family, which resulted in the case being plastered all over the headlines.
