Basic Witches

We are so grateful to have a friend like Mx. Becker Grumet. They are a non-binary trans-masculine person fighting for Black Lives Matter, Black Trans Lives Matter, and advocating for the LGBTQIAP communities, all while writing & producing hilarious Musicals such as the acclaimed “Weed Shop”. As you’ll hear on this episode, we met Becker when they went by their birth name and had long hair. It was an honor to get to interview them on the ins and outs of top surgery, hormone therapy, decisions like chopping their hair off and saying, “Ta ta!” to their ta-ta’s. Life can’t be broken down into 1’s and 0’s, so it’s only fitting that people are non-binary as well; it’s all a spectrum. As three privileged white people having this conversation our hope is that we can inspire other white folks to have the difficult conversations with their loved ones on race, voting, and the importance of activism in 2020 and beyond. We end with a card pull on the blossoming of a new world!

Sparkle Sterling can shine through anything, and it’s one of the *many* things we love about her. She’s an actor, writer, model, activist, mother, and the list goes on - the woman is a Goddess! Sparkle chats with Leah and Rachel about the very earthly struggles of being a woman, especially a black woman raising a black son, dreamt up colorful futures we’d like to see, and got deep in laughter and thought, as per usj. Witches, it’s time to make money moves, so listen in for our manifesting tips, how to harness that pu$$y power, and enjoy the scary good card reading at the end of this episode. Witches, it’s time for our bright future. (Hi, Mr./Ms. FBI agent, we know you’re listening!)

We hope this episode reaches your ears in good health and safety, dear listeners. A few weeks ago we talked with Pro-Witch Kelley Knight, global author and the bad-ass owner of The Modern Mystic shop in Atlanta, GA. As you’ll hear, we recorded this episode amidst pandemic protests and before the tragedy of George Floyd, but we hope the wise words within the hour can provide inspiration and comfort for you now. You’ll learn about Kelley’s psychic awakening, spirit guides from the movie Transformers, and how to instantly heal yourself and how to be more responsive, less reactive. In closing, Kelley (@modernmystic_shop) gives us a spot-on Tarot reading for the collective.

Fellow comedian and Pro-Witch Rebecca Leib joins us for an episode recorded amidst chaos. As Los Angeles burns around us as we delve into the long history - since Day 1 - of oppression in America. Witches are here to fight for equality and we’re no strangers to burning things down. We stand with Black Lives Matter and urge you to spread the word and do what you can to add magic to the cause. As if reality isn’t currently haunting enough, we hear some legit ghost stories, totally accurate Tarot tales, and we get two cents from a Grandma ghost. We are aware that we are white and privileged, which is why it is important that we use that privilege to fight with our brothers and sisters of all races, genders, and sexualities. Let’s make America a safe, inclusive, respectful melting pot, er, cauldron*. In closing, Rebecca (@rebeccaleib) reassures us with an inspiring Tarot spread you won’t want to miss. Sending big love to you all.

Aloha, witches! Leah and Rachel sit with knit maven and author of “The Junior Witch’s Handbook”, Nikki Van De Car, as she beams in from oh-so-healing Hawaii. Though Nikki doesn’t consider herself a Pro-Witch, and you’ll hear why, she’s managed to manifest her dream house, sense spirits in the great outdoors, and writes books on witchcraft for both kids and adults! We hear about how to use crystals for stress management, as well as simple ways we can find positivity in the pause. We talk about growth-mindset, the power of meditation, and hot fiery Pele. In closing, Leah and Rachel give Nikki (@nikkivandecar) a Goddess Oracle Card reading.

Talking to Sandra and Leanne from Salem felt like chatting with the *real* Hocus Pocus witches, except they’re nice and not sucking the souls out of children. Sandra lives in a century-old family estate on Gallows Hill and Leanne comes from a lineage of broom makers - so yeah, it doesn’t get more Salem than that. Grab your witches’ brew and sip along with us to do your own tea reading! All you need is loose-leaf tea and a white plate to tip your cup onto when you’re done. We get into real Salem witch ghost stories, the Book of Shadows, how your rituals are like speed-dialing the Gods & Goddesses, and the importance of being a brutally honest witch. In closing, Rach spills the tea on Leah’s computer.

You read that right. Margaret Cho is on the show and we knew it - she’s a witch! It was the highest honor to sit “with” Margaret and chat about witches, magical powers, and honoring the dead. She’s a hero for women, for LGBTQIA activism, and for healing humanity through laughter and Tonglen. Margaret advises you to eat your heart out on garbage, aim for less productivity, and send Grindr to your dead loved ones if they need some D on the other side. Margaret tells Leah and Rachel about past lives, how all art is spiritual work, and, duh, The Masked Singer. The woman behind the Poodle mask is a Goddess-damn icon and we can’t wait for you to absorb her big heartedness and swagger. In closing, Leah and Rach give Margaret a Goddess Oracle card reading.

She may not be a witch doctor, but Dr. Annette Ilg is an ER and ICU doctor who’s a basic witch at heart. We get the report straight from the front lines on the war against COVID-19 and what it’s really like for doctors and nurses right now. Dr. Annette answers our questions on mask protocol, near-future outlook, and what we can do to help healthcare workers. It’s a wild time we’re living in, and we are forever grateful to people like Annette for helping the ill. We’re all experiencing massive *change* and *transformation* and we hope this episode and card pull help to remind you that you’re not alone, even though hopefully you’re isolated. We love you!
