  • We Bought B8F!

    Who is A.J.? (2:31)

    • A.J. has been a fan of the show for quite a while, and he was too excited when he heard that Steve was looking for an opportunity for the podcast. A.J. was looking to create a new kind of show to reach out to people on the journey past eight-figures, and this podcast was it.
    • A.J. has been playing around with the internet since the ’80s. He sold a company back in the ’90s about doing web development when people were still trying to figure out how to close h1 tags. A.J. has had some good luck over the years and a lot of stupidity, and he learned a few things from experience.
    • He has been trying to build concepts for a long time and, at the end of the day, has built a few agencies. He has sold most of them into web development, media buying, and dealing in New York.

What makes A.J. so bullish about podcasting, and where do they see it going? (15:36)

    • A.J. has spent a lot of his career working in developing communities for brands, basically how to get people to be interested in what brands they were talking about and have done in the past.
    • A.J. and his team see it as a media business where you are acquiring audience members because the audience is where the value lies. It’s the community that you build for your podcast that is truly important.

  • 8 Figures with Matthew Korban from protecting his house with a rifle in Lebanon to an award winning business

8 Figures with Matthew Korban from protecting his house with a rifle in Lebanon to an award winning business

From protecting his home in Beirut with a rifle to winning multiple awards & international success.

Today you’ll find Matthew coaching and helping entrepreneurs to restore balance to their lives without compromising their career. His journey to 8 figure success was anything but an easy ride. From protecting his home in Beirut with a rifle to winning multiple awards & international success then to almost die of health complications, Matthew Korban has been through a lot.

Matthew was born in Lebanon, Beirut, but on the move his entire life. Planning since childhood to leave Lebanon, he eventually settled in the USA, and chose Ohio to raise his kids. He enjoyed success in the corporate world; but realizing that his knowledge of languages and cultures of the middle east was a great opportunity to set himself apart in a crowded entrepreneurial world; he jumped headfirst into building his consulting business to 8 figures. A near death experience and a wake up call of having 5 months to live gave him the incentive to pivot; from the high stress business consulting business, into the wellness industry.

In this episode, Steve, Mary, Richard, and Matthew discuss:

    • 3 golden rules
    • Asking ourselves if we are willing to compromise our friends, family and health just to build a big company just to be under the spotlight.
    • If you don’t take risks, you are going to say where you are.

    Key Takeaways:

    • You can still achieve your dream, while maintaining a work life balance, it might just take a little longer

Best Advice I Ever Received:  Trust your feelings, trust yourself, you always have your own best unconditional interests

Best Advice I’d Give To Someone Who Wants To Build A $10m+ Business: Ask for help. It takes real courage and overcoming your own pride to do so.

  • $321 Million Dollar Exit From Restaurant Delivery, Will Moore CEO of Moore Momentum

$321 Million Dollar Exit From Restaurant Delivery, Will Moore CEO of Moore Momentum

$321 Million Dollar Exit, Will Moore | Restaurant Delivery | Moore Momentum

$321 million exit: doorstep delivery. Imagine having WIll Moore’s ”nothing can stop me” attitude, and wondering what kind of problems do people have right now, that need to be solved. But it wasn’t always that way, rewind to college where he described himself as having a typical victim attitude until a serendipitous event changed his life forever. Now he’s the guy known for catching sight of and observing trends, in a big way.

Rolling back a few years; he had graduated from Rollins College and was enjoying success in real estate. Looking for trends and problems that needed solving. The answer flashed, the need for quality college-friendly housing. Arise Rollins Rentals, the solution for his alma mater and the momentum for his financial success.

Business was booming. Like many, he was working long hours and ordering a lot of take out. Takeout wasn’t new but a variety of choices were, making ordering in food a little bit sweet and a little bit sour. Tiring of Pizza or Chinese food options spawned his next venture, the restaurant industry’s first doorway delivery company.

Growth was hydrated with influxing franchise dollars and gobbling up small town USA delivery businesses. Fast food forward a decade to cash out at $321Million!

Will’s latest message is ripe today. When the current climate is one where, the rubber meets the road. Whether you’re speaking your truth, taking the moral high ground or worried about alienating people, you are damned if you do and damned if you don’t. But it makes us who we are, and it’s part of our core.

What he knows for sure? Money is not the secret to happiness. In fact, Will believes our greatest entrepreneurial business is one’s life. Balancing mindset, emotional and physical health, building relationships and giving back to the world. Spending time with people you love and building momentum in all 5-core areas of your life.

After exiting Doorway Delivery, WIll’s purpose is to Shine his spotlight and expertise into the latest trend of self awareness. Will has discovered financial and career makes up only ⅕ of our happiness quotient. Real happiness requires us to fire on all cylinders in the 5-core areas of life. The first part is building momentum; and he offers a gamified experience that helps one stop the failure habits in each of the five core areas of their life, replacing them with success habits. The second: teaches how to use your five cores so you too, can fire on all cylinders.

In this episode, Steve, Mary, Richard, and Will discuss

    • Backlash
    • It’s not about words it’s about actions
    • A polarized nation struggling for answers.
    • Lessons on scale and looking for an exit.
    • Barriers to entry: If you have a good product, the key is to develop loyal customers through great consistent experience is your best barrier to entry.
    • 5 core areas of your life

$10M+ | Mac Lackey Started, Scaled & Sold 6 Businesses and Raised Over $75 Million in Capital

Mac has been an entrepreneur his whole life. He has built, scaled and exited 6 businesses, 5 of them were at an 8 figure exit or 8 figure in revenue so he has touched the 8 figure mark many times in his career. This week on Beyond 8 Figures the crew reminisce with Mac about the dot com crash, the 2008 real estate crash and Steve and Mac both shared that they were stunned at the amount of businesses who were not able to navigate the 30-60 days so far into this current crisis and have had to close.

Mac shares that the real role of a founder is to navigate turbulence and to have the ability to have staying power. What it means to have staying power is the ability to pivot to another way of serving your customers who may not be buying your current product, if you can sell a different product to an existing audience then you have given yourself staying power. Mac shares his experience in his first internet company in the mid 90’s starting it in a space where no one knows they need what you are trying to sell, having to educate a new industry and hire for jobs that don’t exist and then finally selling the “what is possible” vision to exit this company for millions in his 20’s.

Now’s the time, here is the neon sign, go do it and try something new but be careful of the “new” founders mistake don’t try to sell a market, find a product for a market that already wants it says Mac. If you have an idea, test for demand in the market and is that demand in cash? Mac suggests, you raise the capital to turn up the volume on something that is already working not the opposite. So many great nuggets in this interview be sure to tune in to get the rest!

Mac Lackey is an American entrepreneur who has started, scaled and sold six companies. Mac and his companies have been featured on CNN, The Wall Street Journal, Fast Company, Business North Carolina, USA Today and The New York Times. Notable ventures include: KYCK (acquired by NBC Sports), Mountain Khakis (acquired by Remington) and Internet Soccer Network (acquired by division of News Corp/Sky).He additionally served as a member of the Board of Directors for Lending Tree (NASDAQ: TREE) for over five years. Mac was a collegiate All-American and played professional soccer before starting his first Internet company in 1995.

[spp-tweet tweet=”Founders, your number one job is to figure out how to manage turbulence” @maclackey

In this episode, Steve, Mary, Richard, and Mac discuss:

    • Make your clients chemically dependent on you, offer many services to fewer clients
    • What are the opportunities when you reinvent yourself from a super star in one industry to unknown in another?
    • What business was like on the internet in 1995
    • How do you sell a business and enhance value “selling what’s possible”

    Key Takeaways:

    • Lessons from previous pivots from economy downturns
    • What is the process and system to replicate an 8 figure business
    • Founders need to manage turbulence

$10M+ 2 Businesses – Susie Carder, CEO | SD Consulting

$10M | Susie Carder, CEO SD Consulting, Single Mom                Hairdresser to $10 Million in TWO businesses.

Susie Carder started out as a low paid hairdresser trying to support her 2 little girls but working for someone else became a challenge (to say the least). Susie decided to do whatever it took to create her own business. After much blood sweat and tears (mixed with cheap mascara) according to Susie, she went on to create, not one, but two $10 Million companies!

As a serial entrepreneur, she is no stranger to starting and scaling. Susie has built and sold 9 businesses, two were good learning experiences and expensive hobbies and the other 7 were multiple millions of dollars in revenue and exit. The two $10 Million dollar businesses were her Spa and a Training and Development Company in the Spa Industry. The first person she always hired was an operations person, they are the foundation, how do we create a business that doesn’t rely on the super star or technician? She took Lisa Nichols company from $800,000 as Lisa Nichols to $10 Million as Motivating the Masses and as Lisa Nichols said “Just do for me as you did for yourself” and that is how Susie built that business for her client. Listen in as Susie shares so much great advice for serious entrepreneurs.

In this episode, Steve, Mary, Richard, and Susie discuss:

    • Make your clients chemically dependent on you, offer many services to fewer clients
    • What are the opportunities when you reinvent yourself from a super star in one industry to unknown in another?
    • How do you take a personal brand and scale?
    • 90% of Entrepreneurs are undercharging because they just make up the price, instead plan for the profit

    Key Takeaways:

    • Can you rise above and launch in a recession?
    • How can I serve right now, what does the market need right now
    • Who is your Key Hire when starting and scaling

    Best Advice I Ever Received:

Micheal Gerbers eMyth book says build it like you are going to sell it and that is exactly what she did

Best Advice I’d Give To Someone Who Wants To Build A $10m+ Business:

That there is a roadmap to building a 7-8 figure business. 88% of small business fail in the first 5 years, and only 1.7% of the businesses reach 1 million dollars in their business.
